Z wandered into the common room, looking still half-asleep. "Morning, Pangolin people."

"Hey," said Janet. "By the way, I'm Janet Fraiser."

"Z Delgado. Nice to meet you. Are you new?"

[janet_fraiser]

"No, I'm one of the poor fools that started when the school opened last fall," said Janet. She held out her hand to shake. "I was on vacation last week. So your first name is Z as in 'Z-E-E,' the letter Z, or is it short for something?"

"Z like the letter. But it's short for Elizabeth. If half the stuff I've heard so far is true, it's a wonder you stuck around."

"I'd bet most of it's true," Janet said, grinning. "I didn't exactly ask to transfer here. But the people make up for the weird occurrences."

"That's true--everybody here seems so nice."

[janet_fraiser]

"Just about everyone is," said Janet, nodding. "We're lucky that way. So what brings you to summer camp, anyway?"

"I got recruited by this law enforcement agency, and they sorta needed somewhere to stash me while their academy's being renovated."

[janet_fraiser]

"Recruited out of high school?" asked Janet. "So did you already graduate? Law enforcement's a good career to go into. I think half our school is going to end up there or in the military."

"No, I'm going to be a junior in the fall. I got recruited because I have some special abilities they were looking for."

[janet_fraiser]

"Special abilities are generally good," said Janet. "What do you do?"

Z looked kind of nervous, fiddling with her hands as she said, "I make copies of myself."

[janet_fraiser]

"Oh, that's absolutely fascinating," said Janet, sitting up and crossing her legs. She looked a little too excited by this. "How do you do it?"

Z shrugged, trying to keep her nervousness from showing on her face. "I don't know. I just do."

[janet_fraiser]

"So you can literally do two things at once," she said. Janet grinned. "That should make doing homework go a lot faster for you than it does for me. Neat! I have no superpowers, but I'm very good with medical stuff."
