239/240, Saturday Morning

May 13, 2006 09:46

Morning came entirely too early. Not that Janet had gone to sleep late, but she didn't particularly want to get out of bed right now. Or talk to Liz. Or anyone, really. So she lay in bed with her eyes closed, pretending to sleep. With any luck, she'd fall back asleep again soon.

OOC: Locked to Liz Weir.

"Well, you're certainly acting like one right now," snapped Janet. "Though I doubt that's why you're overreacting. For crying out loud, Liz, could you maybe look at me some time?"

Elizabeth rolled over and moved to sit at the head of her bed, facing Janet. Her jaw was set and she looked mutinous. "Is this better?"

"No. It's not better. It's not going to be better until you figure out why you're overreacting and stop getting defensive and angry with me." Janet's face was hard.

"I don't know!" Elizabeth cried, thumping her hand down on the bed. "I love you, and it hurts and I don't know why I'm overreacting!"

"I'm sorry that loving me hurts you," said Janet, her voice quiet again. She looked down at her hands.

Elizabeth covered her face with her hands, trying not to cry. "God, and all I seem to be doing is hurting you too."

Janet shrugged. "I'm the idiot that thought I could handle two relationships without hurting anyone."

"You'd just be better off without me."

"No, I really wouldn't," said Janet.

"It would make things so much simpler, and I'd stop hurting you," Elizabeth said, frantically wiping her eyes.

"I don't want simple," said Janet. "And if you think that breaking up with me is going to stop me from being hurt, could I get you to explain exactly what type of logic you're using, because it's not any I'm familiar with."

Elizabeth curled up on her bed, burying her face in a pillow. "'s like ripping off a bandaid. Hurts for a brief period at the start, but then you're fine after," she said.

Janet stood up and sighed quietly before walking over to Liz's bed and sitting down on it. "That's not how it is for me," she said.

Elizabeth's pillow was damp with tears. "Don't know why you still bother with me," she mumbled slightly.

Elizabeth shook slightly, silently crying still. "I love you too, but sometimes it doesn't seem to be enough."
