239/240, Saturday Morning

May 13, 2006 09:46

Morning came entirely too early. Not that Janet had gone to sleep late, but she didn't particularly want to get out of bed right now. Or talk to Liz. Or anyone, really. So she lay in bed with her eyes closed, pretending to sleep. With any luck, she'd fall back asleep again soon.

OOC: Locked to Liz Weir.

Elizabeth?

Had drunk far too much wine last night.

She held her head, whimpering slightly, as she rolled out of bed.

Elizabeth winced as she snapped on her bedside light, and quickly changed into shorts and a sports bra once again. She grabbed ibuprofen and a bottle of water and padded softly across the room to the door.

She hesitated, hand on the doorknob and looked back towards Janet's bed. "I'm sorry," she whispered, her voice choking slightly. "I'm so sorry."

Janet opened her eyes and turned over when she heard Liz whisper, then sat up.

"Can we talk now?" asked Janet quietly.

Elizabeth froze slightly, before dropping the door handle and nodding. She winced and put a hand to her head.

"Maybe you should take something first?" asked Janet.

Elizabeth moved to the desk chair and sat, opening her water and swallowing the ibuprofen. She rubbed her hand over her face.

Janet sat on the bed and waited, knees drawn up to her chest and arms wrapped around her legs.

"I'm sorry for yesterday morning. I'm sorry for what I said to you, and the way I treated you. I was out of line," Elizabeth said softly, looking down as she twisted the bottle in her hands.

"Why wouldn't you just tell me what's wrong?" asked Janet quietly. Her voice was a little too calm for all the butterflies racing in her stomach.

"Because it's something I had to deal with myself. It's something I have to deal with myself."

"But it's something that affects me too," said Janet. She kept her voice calm.

"Yes," Elizabeth admitted quietly, not looking up at her.

"Then let's talk about it," said Janet firmly. It wasn't as if she didn't have a very good idea of what it was.

Elizabeth hesitated for a moment. "I wish you'd told me earlier," she said.

"I should have, yes." Her voice was still calm. Unemotional, even. "I was worried you'd be upset."

"And I wouldn't be more upset having the news broken to me, what - days before you go?!"

"I never said it was sensible." Janet tightened her grip on her legs. "Would you like to tell me what's bothering you, or would you like to start getting mad at me again?"
