I have NO DOUBT that there are several surrealist big-band groove machines in Portland, Oregon.

I heart Cambridge, although I'm not sure they understand the concept of Oktoberfest, or, as they spell it in Harvard Square, Octoberfest - and given the fact that it was sponsored by Sam Adams and the beer was only present in a couple of small, roped-off corners, I'm not going to argue for the German spelling ( Read more... )

It's good the did a s,k,c, there, since it ain't Oktoberfest if you don't have a liter of beer in a tankard and go around clanking it with everybody else's tankard on the block.

When is this lot supposed to be at my currently-home town World Cafe? That might be good for a laugh...

That was last week - you missed out! But you can learn more at their website - they're "not just for hipsters and adults" (they were one of the better bands musically, if I'm remember right.)

Well-photographed, my friend! The best I managed was the side of Zach's head, with his whole face hidden behind the laptop on a stand that was simulcasting to the Brattle, or whatever. But you got one up close with his skinny skinny girlfriend! Which you should totally sell to People Magazine.

Also, the "we're all in the same boat" thing was the one that martini_corona and I were in years ago, at a protest downtown at the beginning of the war. That's, um...kind of depressing, actually.

And, wow, that is depressing. But it was a pretty banner! I'm glad it's getting use?

And, dude, I didn't even notice the girlfriend! That's totally Shiri Appleby, formerly of Roswell, and also, imdb tells me, appearing as "Jailbait" in an upcoming movie adapted by Aaron Sorkin.

Pic right before the buses (the green & black band marching) -- the girl with the red and black backpack playing the violin with the hoop earrings also went to Brown. I think her name is Olivia. I think we took a class together. Now I will go stalk her on... Facebook.

1) There *was* beer, it was in the Sam Adams area on Mass Ave by Church St that was roped off.
2) My girlfriend is Über-Cüte.

1) It was awfully discreet beer for an Octoberfest, is all I'm saying.
2) True.

It might amuse you to know that I totally tried to join the version of this in San Francisco but:
1) They only accept brass players (WTF??)
2) I wasn't hipstery enough, and thus was rejected. Obviously, then I put on Belle & Sebastian and went to go cry. :)

I would still LOVE to find some organization that would let me wander around with a clarinet and a flask of whiskey. Le sigh.

Hee! Clearly you should start YOUR VERY OWN street band. You could institute the political ideology (and/or brand of whiskey) of your choice!
