Art/ Sci is finally over! YEA and Earl left on Wednesday taking my car to Indiana to visit with his family. I suggested that he took my car since it gets better mileage and has cruz control, It been a long time since I been with out a car, but have my bike and I was able to get where I needed to be when I needed to be there except to the meeting

We are sorry about losing the Open Mic Night, but we simply can not afford to continue with it. The coffee shop actually loses money on those nights. Many people come to play, and to hear the music, but few buy anything, and our regulars, those who come to study, leave. We didn't mind this so much, and took the loss, in order to support the local music community.

But then ASCAP stuck out their greedy little hand. Some people at Open Mic were performing cover tunes, and ASCAP said that we needed a license to allow the playing of the copyrighted songs. In order to continue, we needed to pay them a yearly fee, which, in addition to losing money on Open Mic, we just couldn't afford. If we didn't pay, their in-house company lawyers would immediately sue us. A little research shows that they typically win, too. It was a lose/lose situation for us, so we had to make the hard decision, and stop Open Mic.

What's even worse? Had we capitulated and paid off ASCAP? There are still two other companies out there who do the exact same thing, so we'd have to pay them off too.

We really are sorry, but we had no choice.

No blame to the good folks of the coffee shop.. you guys have been the best, I am just really sad that something that was helping people with what ever they needed at the time is being force to end due to a money hungry group of people who say that they have the musician's best interest in mind. BS to me it just a shame. So if we sing cover song in a park that have vendor that sell coffee or such are they going to close the park too.. I am just being silly. Any way please don't think that any one felt that the coffee shop was at blame.
