Project Sprig: Increases done...or are they?

May 03, 2021 09:15

With only twenty-one rows to go to increase the amount of stitches to the final number, it was just a few stray evenings to go and the increases were done. The increases were simple enough, and done in the same manner as the decreases, and it was already time for another fitting.
Of course, Eisirt made me laugh so you're treated to my wacky smile as well.

The pattern now states to continue straight until the garment reaches 38 centimeters from the underarm, but I'm going to finally, for the first time in this pattern (!!) deviate from the instructions. It's a rarity that I can knit a pattern or even sew a commercial pattern without it needing adjustments, so it's quite lovely to have such a straight-forward knit for a change, and blessing that it fits as advertised right away. Seems like this pattern is a fine match between my odd gauge and my odd size, or maybe I've finally grown fat enough to balance out my previously narrow waist with my ample hips.

Whichever it is, I'm determined to make this much longer. The jumper isn't near my waistband yet, and I'd like this jumper to reach about as far as my favourite sewn merino jumper.
And because my hips are really quite ample, I intend to continue increasing for a little while longer. Maybe I can increase a little less frequently now, like once every six rows in stead of once every four rows?

Finally, there's a garter stitch hem to do, and I still need to see how that will behave under such a long swathe of stockinette. And then the sleeves...
