Big Bangs and other disasters

For me, I mean.

Let me explain. Or sum up. Or ... ramble as the case may be.

Follow the yellow brick road under the cut ...

So I made this post last year: http://janesgravity.livejournal.com/32856.html#cutid1 about how I can't write long!fic to save myself.

Now - that's still true, mostly. I think the longest thing I've written in the past few months was under 5k. In fact, I know it was. I'm not sure WHAT it was ... oh, Sherlock. Probably.

ANYWAY, for Get Your Words Out (LJ) one of their challenges is to write a story that's 10% of your word count goal for the year. So I signed up for it because .... um. Well, I can write 15k in one story. By June 30. Easy, right?

*snorfle*

But that got me thinking about big bang challenges. And how I'd really, really, really like to do one. Just. One. There are many, many big bangs that are tempting and last year I signed up for 5847 (felt like it anyway) and finished ... er, well. Yes. In my defence 2011 was a terrible year for me, and I have a bad habit of letting myself be led astray by shiny things.

So what I'm going to do this year is sign up for one big bang with the agreement with myself that I'll finish the fucking thing. Just. One.

Now I just need to pick a fandom - lol.

I'd do Sherlock, but I have no idea whether there's going to be another big bang for that or not. I'd like there to be, because I think that'd be seven flavours of awesome. Wait and see, I guess.

For now, these are the ones I'm considering:

http://paperlegends.livejournal.com/ - the Merlin big bang. Which is 30k. Which is .... .... doable? The trouble there is I've only written one Merlin fic and I don't know that my words would measure up because the Merlin big bang fics tend to be awesome and I'm ... not - lol.

H'anyway.

This is the other one:
http://stargate-summer.livejournal.com/ - which is 20k. I've never written Stargate fic before but you know, I fail to see why I should let that stop me. ;p

There are a few other possibilities here: http://bigbangindex.livejournal.com/ like the queer big bang, or the dystopia big bang ... (sidenote: the big bang index is a dangerous, dangerous place.)

I want to - try - and do a big bang because what I'm working on with writing - and everything really - is being more focused, less scattered. So, obviously, a 20 to 30k fic is the way to achieve that.

Obviously.

jane go boom, fandom, big bangs, fic
