Potter a Day - Day seven

Day 7: Favorite female character and why?
Well it definately isn't Umbidge :-D. I think I have two personal favourite characters, and thankfully they are both alive in the Potterverse!
My first choice is Hermione - and I really indentify with her. I spent the majority of my summer holidays in the local library, curled up with a book, and I used to be in their so often, I was often mistaken for a librarian.  With the Internet at home, and lots of other things to occupy me, I have become a less frequent visitor to my local library, but still keep in touch with the librarians. I really envy Hermione with her brains - she was definitely the brains of the Trio. She would have done well in Ravenclaw. On first reading of Philosopher's Stone, when Hermione "accidentally" entered Ron and Harry's carraige, I was sure that somehow she was going to be Harry (and Ron's) best friend. She care across as very bossy in book one, but I feel she didn't have many friends. Ron and Harry helped her realise that there was much more important things than books and learning. She was a great support in book 7 to Harry, during the camping trip, when Ron went off in a huff. And it also seemed obvious to me that Hermione would marry Ron - she was just waiting for him to get a more emotional range than a teaspoon! :-D
My other favourite female, in contrast to Hermione's brain, is Luna Lovegood. She seems so delightfully loopy, and definitely thinks "outside the box". She can say hurtful things, but it is done in such a way that you can't really take offence. She really helped Harry, when she said she could see Thestrals too, and helped him even more when she reassured Harry that he would see Sirius again one day, the ones they love are only beyond the veil. She lost her mother early too, so has a lovely relationship with Xenophilius, she has always supported him. The D.A. was brilliant for Luna, where she could be herself, and actually have friends. The painting in her bedroom, of Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny and Neville was so touching, and I loved the way that it was Luna who showed Harry where Rowena Ravenclaw's statue was.
Although Luna and Hermione are my favourites, honourable mentions go to Ginny (just a little girl in book one, who developed into a fantastic character, as well as being possessed by Voldemort, and hid her love of Harry until he finally realised he loved her. Ginny and Harry are so perfect for each other!) and Minerva McGonagall, with such classic lines as "It unscrews the other way!" and "Are you sure you would not like a cough-drop Dolores?". Cross Minerva at your peril! :-D
