Lightly picking your brains

Hey Friends and Sistahs:  I inherited by father's collection of slides, mostly 35mm Kodachrome, which includes hundreds if not thousands of photos he took for his own use during his service with the US Dept. of Agriculture.  He traveled all over the US in the 1960's and 70's gathering crop statistics directly from the farms.  He made these photos not for the gov't but for his own enjoyment, and as you can imagine, I think they hold historical significance.  An accomplished amateur, my father had an excellent eye for content and composition.

I'm in the process of digitizing the slides, and I'd like to make them available for the public, but I don't want to give them away--that's what led me to check out shutterstock.com, a stock photography site, but since I'm not producing a new stream of images for commercial use, that's not the place for me.  One of the things I'm considering is opening a store for digital downloads on etsy.com, but I don't really think that's the proper audience.  They are not cute ephemera, they are authentic illustrations of farms from the past.

If you've ever dealt with this kind of thing, your knowledge and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
