I've had a rough last week-and-a-half, as some of you may know, and hence my general silence in the blogging world. I'm still alive, and working through. So I thought I'd just say that.
Despite everything that's happening atm, I can't help but draw attention to:
- The fight for ("You can take the 'ex-gay' outta politics..." [Good As You], and the rather scary "Eat, Drink, and (be free to) Marry" [Good As You] which talks about pastors in California getting people to fast) and against (Brad Pitt [Joe.My.God], Stephen Spielberg and Kate Capshaw [Towleroad] donating money, SF Mayor Gavin Newsom and NY Gov. David Paterson hosting a dinner, Ellen DeGenerates decyphering the proposition [Joe.My.God], and the "No to Prop 8" TV Advertisement [Towleroad]) the horrid Proposition 8 in the upcoming elections. It's somewhat similar.... oh, who am I kidding, it's exactly the same as the Marriage Amendment Bill (2004) which formerly defined relationships as being between a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others (yes, even womyn). The key here is that you should vote NO, Californian readers. And I know you exist because you come up on my little map. Be glad you have been afforded the opportunity to chose, because we in Australia DIDN'T.
- McCain's campaign suspension [Joe.My.God] during the economic crisis (while he claimed quite recently that the "economy is strong" [Towleroad]) - or, as Joe puts it, until he has a better chance to win. He's off with Obama to be all important at the White House [Towleroad], and we can only hope this is the closest he gets for a long time. Of course, this means he shirked off Letterman [Towleroad] (who says this is uncharateristic of McCain and wonders what someone is "putting something in his Metamucil"). And left Sarah Palin, possibly the sole reason proving the Dilbert Theory that the most ineffective people get promoted to where they can do the least harm... until they go too far, to talk to the press [Joe.My.God]. For the first time. Here's a highlight:
Couric: You've said, quote, "John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business." Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight?
Palin: I think that the example that you just cited, with his warnings two years ago about Fannie and Freddie - that, that's paramount. That's more than a heck of a lot of other senators and representatives did for us.
Couric: But he's been in Congress for 26 years. He's been chairman of the powerful Commerce Committee. And he has almost always sided with less regulation, not more.
Palin: He's also known as the maverick though, taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he's been talking about - the need to reform government.
Couric: But can you give me any other concrete examples? Because I know you've said Barack Obama is a lot of talk and no action. Can you give me any other examples in his 26 years of John McCain truly taking a stand on this?
Palin: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.
Couric: I'm just going to ask you one more time - not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.
Palin: I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you.
Sigh. Now that's a woman who I would want as my 2IC.
- Of course, who could go past the absolute classic Tina Fey and Amy Poehler doing Palin and Clinton. "I can see Russia from my house!" We've all seen it, but here it is again (unfortunately, embedding doesn't seem to like me today).
- And finally, progress is not so forthcoming in Sarajevo [Joe.My.God], with pride marchers attacked. Mind you, if you've ever seen Eurobeat (almost Eurovision)...
So, through this you might notice I've now got a "gay news section" sort of going in my Google Reader. And you'd be right. All of the new "news" blogs I subscribe to are over in the links in the sidebar. I thoroughly recommend them (though they do tend to all say the same general thing), especially if your RSS Reader is looking lonely and you want more frequent posts to read.
I'll blog properly again soon.
