I woke up a bit early today (three PM, which is pretty good considering that I got home from work at 7:00 AM). I have an unusual amount of energy, which I will use to tackle apartment cleaning (I was gone all last week and my Mom will be here tomorrow--my husband kept everything pretty neat, but I've got tons of clutter everywhere), laundry (bleck), grocery shopping (I need some fruit!), and . . . Guitar Hero? Also, I will go for a run.
Sometimes I think about people who have kids and how different their lives must be. Like, they probably would have to choose between Guitar Hero and doing the laundry.
I work in a giant warehouse. That means feral cats, despite our best efforts to control them (and "control" means calling the local cat rescue society, not anything more nefarious). Sunday night a worker found this tiny, tiny little kitten--s/he couldn't even walk yet. The kitten's mom had accidently been killed by some equipment. S/he was so cute and tiny--my heart just melted. When we moved to Little Rock, we left Buster (our cocker spaniel) behind with my husband's mom (we had a sort of shared custody arrangement) and he died recently. Houses are just so lonely without animals. However, the husband is pretty much allergic to cats . . . so a baby that will require bottle feeding AND inspire sneezing fits probably isn't the best choice. Nothing breaks up an executive meeting like somebody walking in with a tiny, blinking kitten. Trust me--no business was accomplished after that point. Fortunately, we're all softies (one guy, a former Army officer, actually began CRYING, despite his best efforts to hide it). The kitten got another good home.
Has anybody here ever worked for a corporation with a huge developmental focus? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it, as that's where I'm at right now. I hear "Don't worry about the job, we're sure you're learn it. Instead focus on XXX." With the XXX being some personality trait that I've been carrying around for the past twenty-seven years and I'd been pretty sure was ingrained. It's a trip.
