I would give just about anything right now to go back in time to my old house when i was like 7 or 8 and be getting ready to go out trick or treating for halloween.
Right now my mom would be running around at the the house trying to find things for my costume...whether it be a ballerina, a witch, or a cat (which i seriously was for like 3 years in a row until i outgrew my tail). And she'd be helping me with my makeup and trying to find me something suitable to hold my candy in, while i'm throwing a fit the whole time saying "the other kids aren't going to have PUMPKINS!" or something equally annoying. And I remember that big blue rubbermaid box that we had all of our random halloween "trinkets" in that would be sitting on the kitchen counter. I'd be on the phone talking to like, cara or crystal or diane and talking about where we were all going to meet up to go around the neighborhood, and which house was donned the "haunted house" of the neighborhood. My dad would be sitting at the kitchen table with his random scary mask next to him getting ready to answer the door upon the next ring. Of course he'd be mid-cigarette when it rang, and/or mid the local on the 8's and he said "shit"...but whatever. The house would just have that "smell" of halloween and autumn and it would be decorated to the nines and OF COURSE there would be the creepy halloween music playing! I think my mom bought a new CD every year just to play it on Halloween. I can still remember the smell of the nasty makeup you'd put on your face to make you look like a "dead cheerleader" or something. So with a pillowcase, a flashlight, and the bomb costume (they always were when you were that age) I'd walk over to my grandparents house and show them my costume. My grandpa would jump and pretend to be scared when i walked in and then they'd both gush how cute/scary/cool I looked (and joey too, if he was walking me halfway to my friends before going to meet his friends). Then of course, I'd raid their candy bowl and take out all of the good stuff before they gave it all out.
Then the trick-or-treating!!!!! OHP! I seriously think (and joey can back me up on this) that I grew up in the best neighborhood. The majority of the neighborhood had kids around my age, so the streets were always crammed with kids and just about every house participated in giving out candy. And as aforementioned, there would always be like one (sometimes even 2!!) houses that the owners did a haunted house thing and it was always really freakin cool. Then I'd come home by curfew and eat as much candy as I could. The next morning I'd try so hard to convince my mom that I was too sick to go to school but 9 times out of 10 she'd say i had to go anyway. And that would be it, until another year.
I think Halloween is one of my favorite holidays because I had such good memories of it when I was a kid...and I LOVVVE dressing up and pretending I'm anything I want to be...
Anyways I just wanted to put that out there, mostly so I can look back at in in like 6 months and read it, and be all nostalgic again. it sounds a little bit like a 5 paragraph essay...hmmm
