Okay...time to vent it up...
So I went to the career fair today. I totally talked to Merrill Lynch about my next step yadda yadda yadda, that went well (they were there to recruit graduates to Jacksonville, I want an internship in Tallahassee, I was mainly just collecting information). Then I went to this investment firm that offers internships in tallahassee (yay), gave them my resume, then they told me that they prefer students to take the internships in their hometown BECAUSE the interns are calling and setting up appointments with their own clients and selling them Nortwestern (the company) plans....WTF!? Okay, an internship is making coffee, doing copies, filing paperwork, and on a good day following around an analyst and going with them on client meetings....NOT SETTING UP YOUR OWN CLIENTELE AS A JUNIOR! hhhhhhhh...but I had already given them my resume, and I'm supposed to be hearing from Mr. Rock from Orlando...hhhhhhhh...so then I sat down at the student tables to plan my next move......then SHE walked up. This girl in one of my classes, who is also in my group. So she starts talking about the group assignment that was due YESTERDAY that I didn't go to class. (don't worry, everything is fine, she did the work and put my name on it, and she didn't mind, i feel like killing myself, she said "it's fine") so then we get to talkin about our careers, internships, majors........
okay...i don't even know where to start...first of all, the internship i applied for last semester that i didn't get (with the state board of admin.)...yeah SHE HAS IT. Not only does she have it, but she started it last spring and since it's a three semester maximum internship, they put her on as a full (part-time) employee for this semester cause they didn't want to lose her. So then, she starts talking about how she wishes JP Morgan was here (big time investment firm, I'd say one of the top 5 in the country) because she USED TO INTERN FOR THEM and she wants to see if she can work there again after college for a little while. Then she started talking about how much she hated working for MORGAN STANLEY (another top 5 investment firm).......hhhhhhhhhhh.....so then my feeble atempt to even stay on track w/her, i told her that i had just spoken with Merrill Lynch (see above) about an internship in Tallahassee....well of course, she alread knows about it....she has two friends who have done it, and she didn't want it because A) it doesn't pay and B) she never wants to work for another retail firm like that again cause MORGAN STANLEY was too much intra-office competition..............AHHHHHHHHHHH I JUST WANT TO SCREAM! Not because she was rude, or annoying or anything....just because I'M SO JEALOUS!! and yes everything she told me was credible, cause then she brought out her resume and was talking about which internship she liked the best. She wants to be an investment banker...i want to be a Financial Advisor....at least we're not going for the same job (well not exactly the same)...shit that reminds me, I forgot to talk to American Express....anyway...as an ending to that story, not only did she completely deflate my self-esteem about my resume cause her was soooooo AMAZING (seriously, it was not a step below perfect) but she also made me miss the chance I had to talk to everyone else because by the time we finished talking it was lunch time for them....fuck it
