the show last night was seriously so bad. closed casket funeral got boring really really quick this time around, i guess im not into that kinda shit anymore.
but it got me thinking. we've played shows where the turnout is seriously so bad. but what it comes down to is, it doesn't matter how many kids are there, because im doing something right now im my life that makes me happy. and not alot of people can say that they write music with 4 awesome guys and play tonnes of shows. i've definitely taken it for granted over the past 9 months. i never sat back and thought about how lucky i became when i fell into place with this whole situation.
but i see a lot of people who REALLY take it for granted. several people who think they're rockstars, looking down there noses at other people because they feel like independent music has it's own kind of hiearchy. i meet people, like the singer of the most serene republic. since they've been signed to Arts and Crafts, the guy looks at me, and talks to me like im nobody. i don't have any negative wishful thoughts towards him or anything, but fuck, he's one person who is definitely taking his passion for granted.
it's not about who's been doing this for how long. none of us who are writing music, and playing for small crowds, are legends. everyone i see who has a throbbing ego needs to leave it at the door, because you'll never be positively remembered for being the guy who treated you like shit when you just wanted to tell him how much you enjoyed there set.
im so thankful for out following of fans. guys like Theo, Nate, Phill, and EVERYBODY who comes out to all of our shows (you know who you are, i haven't forgotten any of you) make this as good as it has been.
i whole heartedly appreciate every single time i'm able to just know you guys are there for us.
i'm not about "hardcore politics" or any kind of shit like that, but it's cut and dry. people who have the privelidge of writing music, and being able to be on stage to perform that take it for granted should think twice about there actions towards fans or other bands.
at least when im older, ill be able to think back and say "i worked so hard, and i did something increidble in my teenage years. i met the best people, and i was genuinly happy with what i was doing with myself".
