Title: The Child's Eye
Author: janeausten4ever
Rating: G
Warnings: Erm, prose?  If that counts as a warning...
Spoilers: N/A
Character(s): Melody Pond
Word Count: ~250
A/N: Written for the who_contest prompt "Forbidden."  I imaged this as the colorful, chaotic mind of Melody as a child growing up on an alien planet.
Summary: Everything there will be beautiful.

i am a quilter.
i sew together a pattern of promises
Each surer than the last,
each with its own seal of good intentions.

And in the morning
Counting imprints of stars that fade in the sunlight
And in the evening
Sifting through mountains of moonbeans
i see the galaxies imploding in the Greater Realm
like a quilt spread out across someone else's sky

Cherry blossoms fall from a fruitless tree
Before they reach the ground they flutter,
aimless butterflies
Their cores are white
nothing.

"Everything there will be beautiful,"
But in the pictures it is always white.
i thought beauty was fish like rainbows cutting through the river
i am wrong sometimes.

The patchwork of the sunrise is clumsy
The square seep into each other like the watercolor paints
they shove at me
Nothing really fits
And yet they say there is nothing so grand
in all the universe.

If you look for the flaw in a butterfly, you will find it, easy
Their wings are glory but their eyes are shame
No one really knows what to do with them

The wooden globe spins idly on the desk
The words of the planets blend together until they are meaningless
the mountains shift and the skies swell
The globe crashes and glass splashes up from the ground
like blood

There are too many layers to this quilt
This part's right but the other part's all wrong
It doesn't really
make sense.
