...or at least I'm attempting to be. Emily invited me to see the midnight showing of Batman Begins with her and her new hubby, Brian. Since I was already on the west side at my parents', I thought this would be the perfect plan: take a nap from 9:30-11pm, have Emily call to wake me up, and head over to the theater after making a coffee stop. I'd get ample sleep between the nap and about 3-4 hours once I'm home, add some coffee in the morning, and viola! Refreshed and ready for tomorrow.
The window of opportunity for a nap has escaped, unless I want to salvage the last 6 minutes before Emily calls, which will give me just enough time to lay down on my parents' couch, close my eyes, and anxiously wait for the phone to ring. Am I acting like an old person? I know plenty of people my age who stay out drinking and carrying on until 2 or 3am on a somewhat regular basis, let alone sit in a chair in the dark for 2 hours and drive home by 2:30am... once in a great while. On a weekend, this would be no problem. When I was in college, it was not unusual for me to run on 2 hours of sleep for the better part of a day. I feel I need to do this just to stay in practice. It's been a little while, but I know it'll come back like riding a bike -- only with much more caffeine involved.
