so yesterday was a pretty nice birthday. thanks to those of you who left me birthday wishes, and no hard feelings to those who didn't :) it is a busy day for everyone!
i got some wonderful gifts, not least of which was spending the morning cuddling under the covers with steve.
i absolutely LOVE living across the street from the cemetery. the trees are putting on an incredible show for us right now. every beautiful shade of red, orange and yellow you can imagine, contrasting with the headstones. yum. and being able to hang out on the balcony in 65 degree weather yesterday was the BEST!!
food yesterday was far better than anticipated. my mother's best friend has regained use of her arm after surgery, so her husband didn't have to cook the meal. and she managed a fairly decent meal. steve's spinach patties scored rave reviews, my mother's creamed onions were perfect as always, and she made a delicious lemon birthday cake for me. lemon lemon lemon. i hardly had to bother with the turkey and stuffing. plus my grandma was there :) and i got to talk to their son who is practically my brother who is currently working in Macau and couldn't make it back for Thanksgiving. the only bad feature was that i was seated next to their Aunt Alberta, who is very strange and tried once again to goad me into political discussion and criticize my social justice values. last time i saw her she accused me of harboring terrorists because the organization i work for represents the detainees at guantanamo. excuse me, even her own beloved republican administration has said that 90% of the people there pose no risk to the US!!!!!!!!!!! half the men there have been cleared for release but have no way of getting back to their home countries. she refused to believe that, so obviously she doesn't read the news other than the f'ing christian coalition newsletter. but for the most part she and i ignored each other at dinner and it was fine.
our new couch comes tomorrow!!!!! hurray! we are going to break it in by watching a movie tomorrow night. and it looks like the bed will come just in time for christmas. we inch ever closer to having an apartment ready for people to see.
