Pride and Prejudice: A Reversed Sense and Sensibility

Although both Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are (appropriately) recognized as co-heroines of Sense and Sensibility, I would still say that Elinor's forbidden romance with Edward is given slightly more attention than the love triangle between Willoughby, Marianne, and Colonel Brandon. The narrator certainly provides Elinor's point-of-view far more ( Read more... )

Interesting! I never really noticed the parallels, although there certainly are recurring themes.

I knew there were some similarities, but so many? Great job :)

I noticed too that there are similarities between the structure of those two books (though I noticed some in the other books as well). But I have to say that I disagree with some of the points. Especially the point about the character comparison of Mr. Darcy and Colonel Brandon. Personally I think that the only things they have in common are that they're rich - Darcy more so than the Colonel - and rather the silent type. But apart from that they're more dissimilar.

Apart from that I mostly agree. Only to add that even though both books have similar plot points, the motivation behind them often differs and there are enough interesting things between them that make the story enthralling. :D

I agree; those are the only points of similarity I mentioned between the two characters ("incredibly rich but quiet, socially awkward "), as opposed to the plots.

there are enough interesting things between them that make the story enthralling.

I hope you don't think I don't find either story interesting because of these similarities; I find the parallels/changes in structure make them all the more interesting.

I don't really think that Colonel Brandon is really socially awkward. Mr. Palmer is awkward but Col. Brandon seems pretty amiable and agreeable. Darcy on the other hand is aloof and doesn't really want to talk and if he does, he's not always nice. Polite, but not really amiable.

Oh, I certainly didn't, don't worry.

P&P vs S&S anonymous December 14 2020, 02:52:55 UTC
Yes halfway through the novel i was so reminded of Sense and Sensibility that i began to Google "P&P vs S&S" which led me here. The plots and characters are undeniably quite similar. So much so that it would take but a few edits to recreate either story. Could it be that one was an adapted version of the other? And at some point someone decided to publish both?
