ahhh, another weekend in hong kong/shenzen. once again, overwhelming but a welcome change...as well as a vaccuum of materialism that easily sucks me in every time.
this time we got to take the train. i love trains ever since i rode my first LONNNNGGGG one last year in india. we got to SEE india--the culture, the people...but oh, how different they are...
my critique of the china train vs. india train:
1. china train: the scenery consists of rice fields, traditional homes, insane dogs roaming the countryside...you know, the usual
india train: along with the fields and homes, over 500 people in a 5 mile radius pooping along the train tracks in the morning. just squattin and chillin...the lucky ones brought their newspaper. it was awesome.
2. china train: our wake up call in the morning was elevator/easy listening chinese music
india train: men with unusually loud, booming and monotone voices walking through the train repeating "CADBURYYYYY...CHAI-AAAAA...COFFEEEEEE" (you have to have heard it to know how unwelcomed that is at 7:00 in the morning...where you at my india peeps?)
3. china train: i was disappointed. the squatty in their bathroom had a metal tin that caught and released the pee/poop.
india train: you could see the moving train tracks as you did your business and just watch the pee/poop fall out the train. that was fun sometimes (but it's hard to balance squatting on a moving train, that's for sure)
4. china train: no free loaders
india train: sooo many people that would just jump on the train til the next stop. beggars, hermaphrodite clans, people playing the flute or other random things...sometimes sad, many times it made the ride highly entertaining--the people we met because of it.
in summary, the china train (i have to admit) was kind of boring, and it was only 6 hours each way. i spent over a hundred hours on the india trains and had the time of my life...it ended up being one of the highlights of india.
that's all i got about that. i think maybe my india peeps will be the only ones that understand the significance of the india train experience.
i'll have pictures of hong kong soon cuz my girl dian took pictures.
peace out my friends.
