i guess i'll post a new year blog. i'm thinking as i type. it's just boring when you can't sleep from jet lag.
2006...what a year what a year. so many unexpected things i thought would never happen-- i was a nanny for a rich family, i fell in love with a boy, i had my heart broken, i came out of it unscathed, i swam with manatees, saw bob dylan for free on my birthday, God sent me incredible friends that i never knew existed last year, God sent me to china, i fell in love with the people there, etc etc etc...oh and i met Questlove from the Roots (in america). that's right, i know you're jealous. anyway, i liked the year 2006.
my favorite albums of 2006 : (disclaimer: i was only in the country for the first 6 mths ot this year. result: i lost all knowledge of current music, so my list is not from just 2006 albums. just ones that i listened to the most this year)
*the new danger--mos def...i don't care what people said bad about this album. it was creative and original to me. i love most of the songs on there
*abbey road--the beatles...i was quite addicted to this album for a couple months.
*bridges--ravi shankar...this is my peace music and his music makes me happy and sleepy at the same time. nothing compares to indian music
*are you a dreamer--denison witmer...just beautiful
*the golden planes--gileah...her beauty flows into her music. i love her
*takk--sigur ros...music that i don't even understand the lyrics to that make me want to weep or scream...i don't know which one
*still fantasy--jay chou--this chinese guy can play like, every instrument including really traditional ones. he is so talented and original, esp when you line him up against everybody else making music in china. i highly recommend him. listen with open ears and an open heart. you might get addicted like me (i listen to him everyday).
anthems of this year:
*golden slumbers--the beatles... has become my favorite song of all time. i'd listen to it before i went to sleep at night
*better way--ben harper
*don't think twice it's alright--good old bob dylan. i felt like this song described my life at the time
*make a girl cry--band marino. this one too
*you see through me--chris taylor
*geto heaven--common, verse 2
*jackson--johnny cash (holla andrea)
*the color green--rich mullins
*the whole world in his hands--matt redman
*give me love--george harrison
*the sun, the moon, and the stars--(don't know their name, it's a mongolian family)
*qian li zhi wai--jay chou
*two of us--the beatles
*homesick--kings of convenience
thanks 2006. i'll never forget you.
