And sign this petition to help shame the Tennessee schools:
At Sequoyah High School, they are blocking a GSA in the most blatantly illegal way possible, and the principal has (allegedly) assaulted a straight student for wearing a t-shirt supporting the GSA. They are intimidating teachers away from joining as faculty advisor and the students need one to start a club.
Yeah, as I wrote. Schools actually pull this bullshit.
But there's more! You may or may not know that back in May TN signed legislation to keep teachers from talking to students about homosexuality... which basically had George Takei mocking the crap out of them. This is GOOD… but the fact of the matter is this: high school students are taken advantage of by hateful administration. Students may or may not know their rights. They may not have the power or resources to sue their asses.
Which basically makes these people the vilest of the vile. I don't have a lot of allegiance to TN, but I still have family living there. Thankfully, my sister home schools her kids, so their exposure to this stuff may be more limited. It's just a toxic environment for ALL students, and no one wants a child growing up with scars as a victim or a bystander, or even worse, starting along the path that bullies themselves go along. We make students go to school, and yet we don't protect them from harassment and trauma.
