A bit of general housekeeping.
I have a full day of thesisizing planned, but I wanted to catch up with the f-list and do a bit of housekeeping on LJ before I dive in. Just a few general announcements/thoughts/housekeeping thingies:
1. Dreamwidth.
Before I was on LJ, I had a Dreamwidth account, which I have been sort of lame about updating over the past few months. However, after all the DDoS attacks and other inconsistencies with LJ, I figured it would be good to start using my Dreamwidth account to back up my journal. In the event of another LJ blackout, it'll also be the spot where you can find me.
My journal is here. One of the things that I really like about DW is the friending system. Unlike LJ, where friending someone gives them access to your private as well as public posts (unless you create restricting filters), DW has two levels -- subscriptions and access lists. You can read more about it here, but the bottom line is that subscribing to someone allows you to follow their public posts. However, they can't see any of your locked posts, which I really like. Giving someone access to your journal allows them to see your f-locked posts, but in order to see theirs, they have to give you access in return. Sorta confusing, but the FAQs page that I linked to states it much more clearly.
Anyway, the bottom line is that DW is a nice alternative for LJ users, and where you'll find me if LJ has issues in the future.
2. F-list trimming.
Speaking of friends: I've added quite a few people over the past couple of months, and I do think it's time to do a wee bit of trimming. Doing so feels weird, btw, but given the fact that I talk about my personal life a lot more than I planned to when I first started my journal, I would like to make sure that the people who are on my f-list are people who I trust and have some sort of relationship with.
I'll basically be cutting anyone who I never, ever talk to. No offense intended at all.
If you're someone who I don't talk with too often, but you want to stay on my f-list (ugh, you guys, this just feels bizarre -- all elitest and strange), you can leave me a comment. I'll leave them screened for privacy.
3. Writerly things!
I've written almost 2500 words in the past couple of days for this 'quest' story that I've been talking about. It's a drabble that may or may not find its way into the 'real' thing, but it's sort of an exercise for me to start "feeling out" this world. My muse seems to be behaving herself, which means that (knock on wood) I'll actually be working on this with some semblance of seriousness. I post finished things for my friends to see, but I will be engaging in a fair amount of brainstorming and 'thinking aloud.' I'll be making a writing filter for this purpose, so if you want to be included on that, lemme know.
Aaaaaaaaand I think that's all! I was really useless yesterday and didn't get any work done, so I'm off to be really, really awesome and productive.
