Here's the scoop, gang:
College is a lot better than I thought it would be. And it's steadily getting better. Day One was spent moving in, meeting our seminar groups, & doing a lot of gay icebreakers that were kind of fun in the end. My first night here, Justin, Matt, Matt, & Hank came over & we hung out in the dorm. Damn, it was good to see them. Hank, that picture of you and Matt A. under my bed is my desktop background. It's too F-ing precious.
Day Two was more pointless talks & Socials. Emily Otto came over & we went up to the boys' dorm & met some interesting fellows. Though they were kinda drunk, they ended up being pretty nice guys & walked Ashley, Kelsey, & I back to our dorm. We ran through sprinklers.
Day Three was ESCAPE. All the freshmen loaded up on buses to Camp Beckwith with the intention of getting to know our classmates a little better. I slept on the bus there & back. When we got there, we did one silly icebreaker (it was pretty fun, I'll admit), then swimming the rest of the time. Kinda fun, but not really. That night we had another "social." I was in & out. I grabbed a plate of Buffalo wings, chatted with PJ a little, & was out the door. Monica & I spent the night on our phones with Michael & Justin. It's kinda funny. We've developed a little system of courtesy for each other when we have boys over.
Day Four (today) was the first day of school! Yay! The construction workers, busted our water pipes, so we didn't have any water all morning. So when I went running at 8am, I didn't have anything to drink & I had to drive home to shower. You suck, Spring Hill. It was funny, though, because my mom had left a note on the kitchen table for me. Somehow she knew I would be home that day. That's scary. I think it's funny how they haven't called me yet though. It's like they're waiting for me to make the first move. Well this is one battle I refuse to lose. I'm not homesick. I'm not going to give in. Class was fun though. I'm extremely excited about learning, for some reason. Like I can't wait to just sit in my room & study. I've never felt like this. Must be the new computer & all the new desk organizers & pens & everything. There's just something about new school supplies that gets me all hot & heavy for some learning! We had a barbeque tonight. I'm really glad I went. A lot of people who I've only met once or twice started talking to me like we were good friends. One dude gave me a hi-five this morning. I felt so cool. I think I'm starting to fit in... Justin came over. I hadn't seen him in 2 days. I skipped karaoke to hang out with him. I'm glad I did. It's good to get a balance between doing all the socializing at SHC activities & spending time with the people who matter most. We watched Willow in my room. This is the greatest feeling in the world not having any parents to tell me if I can have boys over or not. There's so much freedom. I miss all my friends like crazy, but college is going to be great.
We had our first cross-country meeting last night. It's not looking pretty. Everyone on the team seemed alright. It was just slim pickins. Compared to high school, where my entire group of friends that consisted of 50 cross-country runners, the 10 people who showed up for the meeting is looking pretty sad. Who am I going to hang out with at school if I don't have a group of runners? Man oh man...
Monica & I are having a blast though. I think we made the right decision to not go potluck. We got some weirdos on our hall... lotta drunks, lotta skanks, lotta self-absorbed peolple, & one girl who embodies all that is evil... But we're having fun. Monica's pretty easy to live with. Plus she's just as anti-social as I am, which is good.... I just looked over at her and she's on my bed doing leg exercises. You get the F off my bed, Monica Bell! I KNEW I saw my pillow out of place! You & Michael were DOING IT on my bed! You slut... Just kidding, roomie.
I've got an early class tomorry. I really need to start going to sleep at a decent hour. College is killing me.
