Gig review

Jul 09, 2009 22:20

Okay. So I went to the gig yesterday. We arrived around 8:50 or so and doors opened at 10. hah. I wasn't sure when they opened! But there was a band that was performing outside of the venue. Audreye Sessions I think? They were pretty good. So about 3-4 minutes of waiting, I saw Matthew walking down the sidewalk! I chirped "Hey Matthew!" and he looked my way and said "Hey!" I walked up to him and said I was Julie, the one who wrote the letter. He welcomed me and said that he remembered me from last time. I asked him who was the one who responded to the letter and he said it was Eleanor.

He also said:
he was going to respond but didn't know what to say.
didn't have enough time to write back.
talked about their new project (Matt said they are doing a cover of their new album. INDIVIDUALLY. So Eleanor will have a solo cover album and so will Matt.)
his facial hair and haircut.
what suburb I am from.
the setup for tonight (bass/guitar/drums/vocals)
what he was shopping for and that his drummer was nearby.
my design of the envelope. (I put a newspaper article on top of it, but with windows to see the address and all that)

Then Eleanor was walking towards us and he called her name to come over here. I said "Hi...I'm Julie...the one who wrote you guys a letter." And she said "Yes yes! We posted it on our site today! Did you see it?" I said that I did. Matt, Eleanor, and I then talked about the opening band from 2 years ago. The drummer was actually an alcoholic and they hinted that he is not doing music anymore. Also talked about the legend he is and that they should be the opening band again. She also asked if I wanted my name to be printed and I said sure. So they will change it. Eleanor walked away and I talked to Matt for another 5 minutes. He then said he would see me inside and talk some more after the gig.

I waited for an hour and we got in the venue. I bought their storybook of pictures and forewords and such. It was about Blueberry Boat. I also got some pins. I went back to my spot against the stage and I talked to my friend that I usually see at shows. 2 more friends showed up and we talked until the opening band started. The opening band was Good Touch Bad Touch which is a local cleveland band. The vocals of the Decemberists but sound like Band of Horses. They were okay. The frontman was...interesting. Probably the best thing of the opening band was the PROFESSIONAL CRAZY PHOTOGRAPHER LADY. She would sneak up in front of us and make the strangest positions while sitting on the stage to take pictures. She would LAY on an amp to take a picture. We couldn't stop laughing and probably the whole time we were just mocking her. She even brought a ladder to the middle of the ballroom to take a video of the band. Insane. The band ended and I talked some more with the people around me. We waited patiently and finally FF were on. Absolutely mindblowing. Matt would do cute things like stick out his tongue involuntarily while playing complicated guitar riffs and Eleanor looked wonderful. The new songs are different and more accessible. Bluesy like Gallowsbird but a lot more keyboard. At the end of the show, Eleanor personally gave me the setlist; like she looked for me and gave it to me and smiled. I talked to Matt after the show and got him to sign that blueberry boat book. He told me that he didn't actually write comics contrary to what the internet says...? I told him to come back to Cleveland and he said "Oh! We will!"

PICHAS.

(Eleanor's setlist with her handwriting)
I always feel awkward asking for pictures with bands, so I'll do that next year. So yeah guys, now I'm pretty much acquaintances with Eleanor and Matthew. They know my name and everything. Also Matthew is pretty hot. There I said it.
