ॲ Chapter 3 ॲ
It was our annual family reunion and my first time attending the said event. We have a big family in my mother’s side so it’s natural if I can’t recognize most of our relatives except for my grandparents who already died. Most of them are based abroad and it’s hard for us to get together. I’m getting bored so I sneak out towards the green house for a short nap. I was walking while sight -seeing when a familiar voice came from behind.
“I didn’t expect to see you here” he was smiling and damn those eyes it gives me chills.
“Yabu-san? What are doing here? I mean I’m glad to meet you again”
“We have some sort of family celebration but I was getting bored to death so I went out for a while. How about you?”
“Same here, I was headed to the greenhouse not far from here”
“Would you mind if I join you? I heard they have different varieties of butterfly.”
“Oh not at all, Really? Let’s go! Let’s go!” we were walking side by side but we haven’t gone that far when another voice was heard, specifically my fathers’.
“I see you’ve already meet you uncle, Kei”
“Dad? What are you talking about? Uncle? Who?
“You don’t know yet? Kota here is your uncle second cousin of your mom.”
“What?! But he looks so young to be my uncle” I look at him with disbelief and was it disappointment I felt?
“So you’re my niece??? Hahahhahaha……….. I’m only 23 and you can call Kota, whatever you like but not uncle it makes me feel old.”
“Was that sadness I saw??? Maybe it’s just my imagination. Great he’s my uncle but I still like him…… as a person. And I think liking you uncle as person is not that bad Believe myself”
“C’mon let’s go inside I’ll introduce you to the other relatives” Dad enjoys this kind of occasion because it serves as our bonding time. My dad works in a shipping company so most of the time he’s in abroad while my mom manage our chain of hotels plus a couple of jewelry shops. I’m already thankful if I’ll see them twice or thrice a month but not together. On our way home after the celebration, I asked mom about my so called uncle.
“Mom why didn’t I ever meet Yabu-san???”
“Well you see ……… a month before my expected date of delivery was also the same month aunt Lucy decided to migrate in Australia. This is the second time they came back; the first time was 6 years ago. You didn’t see him because you were suffering from chickenpox.”
“Will they stay here for good or only for vacation?”
“I have no idea honey…………I forgot asking Kota about that, thank you for reminding me.”
Back to the Present
“I promise I’ll be back soon. Keiko say goodbye now to papa.”
“Byebye papa Hika, don’t worry here’s Dolly so you’ll not miss me and mama much.” My adorable child……she’s the fruit of my 9 months of labor and sacrifice. I thank God because he gave me someone I’ll cherish, protect and support. She’s the reason why I still want to keep on living.
“Be a good girl and don’t give mama headache because of crying on things you want okay?” Wow……. Hikaru’s really caring ne? He’s like a mother father reminding her daughter going for a camp.
“I’ll follow you after I finish some problems here but for now take care of yourself and Keiko, I’m not there to protect you, you know.” He grins like a super conceited gay with his 2 fangs showing.
“We’ll be fine, it’s not like something big will happen in just one week”
