The rest of the break passed quickly for the girls. They either spent their time going to fancy dinners or lunches with the Hartmann’s or doing some type of family activity with the Muller’s. They were constantly busy. Every night the girls barely made it to the bed before passing out in exhaustion. It seemed that both sets of parents realized the girls would be leaving soon, so they used the little time they had left to spend as much time together as possible. Although the girls switched from family to family throughout the day they never separated. The idea of splitting up wasn’t even an option. After the incident with Jenny almost being shipped off to Ireland both girls were leery of being separated; however unfounded that worry was. In fact, the girls would have much rather preferred being alone together, instead of constantly with their family. One morning Jenny even voiced her frustration when their heated make out session was interrupted by Emma’s mother informing them that breakfast was ready. Emma managed to calm Jenny down by reminding her that they only had a little longer until they would return to university where they could enjoy all the alone time they wanted without the fear of interruption.
On the last night of break both families came together under the Muller’s roof to enjoy dinner. Mrs. Muller was at first a little short and cold with the Hartmann’s because of how they reacted to the drugs and the emotional distress it caused Emma. After a little persuasion from Emma though, Mrs. Muller opened up to the Hartmann’s and seemed to put her differences aside for the evening. Everyone had a wonderful time that night. The food was delicious and laughter was frequent.
The single thing that really made the night memorable was when Mr. Hartmann informed the table that he had gotten a call from the police earlier. Not only had they arrested Lena, but they found a huge drug scheme that Lena was a top player in. This meant that Lena would be going to jail for quite a long time and would not bother the girls again. Everyone at the table breathed a sigh of relief at this news; especially Emma and Jenny. Both girls had been secretly worried that Lena would somehow go unpunished and return to the university and continue to terrorize them. Now that Lena was arrested they didn’t have to worry about her bothering them anymore and could finally enjoy being a couple.
The rest of the evening passed quickly. After dinner both families conjured in the family room and sat talking happily about the girl’s new term at university and what their plans were for the summer. Once Mrs. Muller put Erik to bed the Hartmann’s decided to take their leave. They kissed Jenny on the cheek and promised her they would be back in the morning to see the girl’s off.
When the Hartmann’s were gone Jenny and Emma trekked their way up to Emma’s room and plopped on the bed. Once they got undressed they tucked themselves under the sheets and talked about the evening. After they had spent the next hour talking about trivial things and exchanging heated kisses they both drifted off to sleep.
The next morning the girls woke up early and began to pack their things into their suitcases. They spent most of the morning figuring out what to take with them and where all of their stuff was. Mrs. Muller had interrupted them in the middle of the packing process insisting that they eat something before they go. After a hasty meal both girls rushed back up to the room to finish packing. Emma had managed to finish before Jenny and tugged her things downstairs while Jenny continued packing.
Ten minutes later Jenny had finished her packing as well. She zipped up her suitcase and looked around the room, reminiscing about all the memories she had made since she got here. She had been so absorbed in her own thoughts that she didn’t hear Emma come in.
“Are you ready?” Emma asked from the doorway. Jenny looked around Emma’s room one last time to make sure she hadn’t forgotten anything. When she was satisfied she tugged her suitcase close to her and nodded to Emma.
Emma opened the door to her room and walked out, waiting for Jenny to follow suit. Jenny shut the door behind her and slowly made her way down the stairs. Both families were standing in the family room talking animatedly. Everyone looked up when they saw the two girls enter.
“I guess it is time to go ladies” Mr. Hartmann said. Emma shook her head in agreement. “We already called you a taxi. It’s waiting outside”.
Everyone followed Mr. Hartmann out the front door to the cab. Mr. Hartmann put both suitcases into the trunk of the taxi while Mrs. Hartmann hugged Jenny tightly.
“We’re so proud of you Jenny for turning your life around”.
“Thanks Mama” Jenny said in embarrassment. She dipped her head shyly and held her mother tighter so she wouldn’t see the faint blush that appeared on her cheeks.
“You call us whenever you want. If you need something your father and I will be on the first flight out. Isn’t that right Rolf?” Mrs. Hartmann said with warning tone. Mr. Hartmann smiled and agreed with his wife.
“Of course Christine, Jenny knows that” he said. He leaned in and hugged his daughter tight before kissing her cheek. “Good luck in school Jenny” he said with a smile.
“Ok Papa” Jenny assured with a matching smile.
Mr. Hartmann then turned to Emma who was standing awkwardly by Jenny. He stuck out his hand for Emma to shake which she gladly did. She knew she wouldn’t get any other form of acknowledgement so she took it for what it was.
“Thank you Emma for taking care of Jenny and helping her stay on the right track”.
The sincerity and emotions in Mr. Hartmann’s took Emma by surprise. His words were extremely heartfelt and it touched Emma. Mr. Hartmann was truly grateful for Emma being a part of Jenny’s life. She was pretty sure Mr. Hartmann just officially voiced his acceptance of their relationship.
“You’re welcome” Emma replied shakily. She wasn’t exactly sure how to respond; his words had taken her completely by surprise. Mr. Hartmann soon released his hand from Emma’s and Emma found herself turning to Mrs. Hartmann now.
After she shook Mrs. Hartmann’s hand Emma turned around to her own parents in order to say goodbye. She was pleasantly surprised to see Erik’s small arms wrapped tightly around Jenny’s legs. Jenny was struggling to maintain her balance as the little boy clung tighter to her. Erik was sobbing loudly and buried his head in Jenny’s leg. Despite the present situation Emma couldn’t help but smile at the sight. Jenny seemed completely overwhelmed by Erik’s actions. Emma knew Erik had taken a huge liking to Jenny over these last few weeks because he would never react this way with any of her other friends. Even Hotte, who Emma had known since childhood, didn’t get this type of goodbye from Erik.
Emma decided to relieve Jenny from Erik’s clutches and walked over to her little brother. She knelt down beside him and put a comforting hand on his petite shoulder.
“Erik, Jenny isn’t going away forever. We’re just going back to school. You can still call her whenever you want and talk to her. Ok kiddo?”
Erik lifted his head and stared uncertainly at his sister through tear stained eyes. “Really?” he said through a sniffle.
Emma smiled encouragingly at her baby brother. “Of course, Jenny would love to talk to you”.
Erik craned his neck to look up at Jenny. “I can call you whenever I want?” he asked innocently.
Jenny smiled warmly at Erik and knelt down to his level. “Of course you can buddy. I would love to talk to you”.
A smile began to creep across Erik’s face then as his eyes lit up in excitement. “Even when I get to the next level on my game? Or when I get a good grade in school? Or to tell you about my day?” he asked excitedly.
“Yes, even then. You can call me whenever you want” Jenny said softly. Erik let out a high pitched yelp and almost tackled Jenny with another hug. Since Jenny was kneeling down she quickly lost her balance and would have fallen over if not for Emma reaching out to steady her.
“Erik don’t I get a hug too?” Emma asked with a feigned pout. The boy quickly looked at his sister and unlocked his death grip around Jenny, who was struggling to stand again. With quick steps the boy ran full force into his sister. Emma laughed at her brother’s enthusiasm and pulled the kid closer to her.
“You can call me whenever you want to Erik” she told him. The little boy’s smile grew impossibly wider and he replied with an overly enthusiastic voice, “Ok!”
When Emma unlocked herself from the little boy’s grip she stood up and hugged her father, who had been watching the scene with an amused smile. His eyes were sad though, and Emma knew he didn’t want to see his daughter leave, even if he would never admit it.
“Bye Papa” she whispered into his shoulder.
“Bye sweetheart. You be good now, do you hear me?”
“Don’t worry Papa, I will” Emma replied.
Emma pulled back from the hug as her father kissed her cheek. She gave him one last fleeting smile before turning her attention to her mother. Once again she saw that Jenny was preoccupied in a death grip hug, only this time it was with her mother. If Jenny had looked overwhelmed before with her brother she looked positively shocked in her mother’s embrace. Emma’s smile widened again from the umpteenth time. It gave her a warm fuzzy feeling in her stomach when she saw Jenny and her mother like this. Jenny and her mom had come a long way in a short amount of time. She was overjoyed that her mother had finally accepted Jenny as part of the family and she did everything possible to make Jenny feel that way. She knew Jenny was still hesitant around her mother for fear that she would turn cold towards her again. But Emma knew overtime Jenny would become more comfortable with her mother.
Emma watched from a short distance as Mrs. Muller whispered something in Jenny’s ear. A faint blush immediately covered Jenny’s cheeks and she seemed completely embarrassed. Emma wondered what her mother had said to cause that kind of a reaction from Jenny. She would no doubt ask her later when they were alone.
Emma was just about to walk over to her mother when she was tapped lightly on the shoulder. She turned to see Mia looking at her with a slight smirk on her face.
“Are you not going to say goodbye to me? After risking my life to save Jenny?”
Emma rolled her eyes at her sister. Somehow she knew her sister would never let this go, even if the tone of her voice suggested she was teasing. “Come here” Emma commanded as she extended her arms towards her sister. Mia smiled and accepted the hug quickly.
“Take care Em. Please try not to get into any trouble. I don’t want to have to come save you again”.
“Of course, I wouldn’t want you to strain yourself” Emma said sarcastically. Mia laughed and disengaged from the hug.
“See ya sis” she said happily. Emma smiled warmly at Mia, “Bye Mia, thank you again for everything”.
“Alright, enough with the thank you already. You all are getting to sentimental for me now”
Emma ignored her sister’s remarks and turned back to her mother. Her mom’s eyes were watery as she stared at Emma with a forced smile. Emma easily gripped her mother in a firm hug.
“Mama, please don’t cry. You do this every time”.
“I’m not crying. I am just going to miss you so much. I really enjoyed you being here for the holidays”.
“I’ll miss you to Mama”.
“You come visit whenever you want and bring Jenny with you too. You know you are always welcome anytime”
“We will come for dinner in the next few weeks. You don’t have to worry” Emma assured her mother.
Mrs. Muller seemed genuinely pleased with this and finally released her daughter from her clutches.
“Emma, you ready?” Jenny asked from behind her.
“Yes, I am coming” Emma said in a calm voice. “Bye Mama, I love you”
“I love you too sweetie”.
Emma turned around and followed Jenny to the cab. She quickly got in and waited for Jenny to follow. Jenny shut the door and the cab driver began to drive off. Both girls looked through the window and waved to their families until they were gone from view.
“Well, I think I have had enough excitement for one break” Jenny commented. Emma smiled and quickly agreed with her.
“Hey,” Emma said as she turned to her head towards Jenny, “What did my mother say to you back there?”
Jenny’s lips curved upwards as her eyes lit up in excitement. “She said to make sure to read her Emma-boo a bedtime story every night because she can’t sleep without one” Jenny said in a high squeaky voice. Emma smacked her arm and Jenny burst into a fit of giggles.
“Jenny,” Emma whined, “I’m being serious. What did she tell you?”
“I am not saying”
“Why?”
“Because,” Jenny gave simply.
Emma sighed, “Because why?” she goaded.
“I just don’t want to”
“Fine” Emma huffed as she crossed her arms and turned her head out the window. She heard Jenny’s faint laughter from behind her.
“You’re so cute” Jenny commented.
“I’m not talking to you” Emma pouted.
“How can I change that?” Jenny asked sweetly. She lightly brushed her finger up and down Emma’s arm. Emma knew what she was doing, and tried to ignore it.
“Just tell me what my mother said”
“Hmm. How about I give you a kiss instead?” Jenny asked as she kissed Emma’s cheek. Emma couldn’t control herself anymore; she turned and met Jenny’s lips in a passionate kiss. Her hands wandered up and down Jenny’s arms as the kiss became more intense.
The girls spent the rest of the cab ride kissing and bickering back and forth. When they finally made it to the university they quickly got out as their urge to finally be alone together became more intense. After Jenny paid the cab driver and Emma got the bags they walked as fast as they could up to their room.
They opened the door vehemently and quickly threw their bags on the floor. Their lips met instantly as both girls fought for dominance.
Jenny tried to push Emma onto the bed but Emma remained firm. Confusion flashed in Jenny’s eyes. “What’s wrong?” she asked.
“We’re not doing anything until you tell me what my mother said to you”
“Aw Em, come on. Just drop it already” Jenny pleaded.
“Nope, just tell me”
“Why are you so persistent?” Jenny mumbled to herself. Emma just kept her gaze trained on Jenny, waiting for her to continue. Jenny looked into Emma’s eyes and then sighed dramatically.
“Fine” she huffed.
“Well?”
Suddenly Jenny’s playfulness and desire were gone. She dropped her gaze shyly, and cleared her throat. “She said, welcome to the family Jenny” she mumbled quietly.
Emma smiled brightly at Jenny and rested her hands on Jenny’s sides. With one swift movement she pushed Jenny onto the bed and straddled her.
“Much better” Emma said in satisfaction. “Now, where were we?”
The End.
