and thus, another lonely Saturday

I have hereby been threatened if I do not post to this journal. SO!:

But really, nothing's new, and that's exactly it! Nothing new since I myself was in high school (except for a brief hiatus in college). I am still keeping myself ridiculously busy.

I have nine hundred to-do lists in my head, and few of them written down, because we all know that random sheets of paper are interred in the graveyard that is the bottom of my purse. Anyhow, I love having things to do. It's only exhausting because in my down time, I'd like to be re-living the summer and spending it with Joe. His downtime, unfortunately, does not coincide with mine (as if he had any), as he's gone from 8-8 at work on weekends, and has to do homework while I have to plan on weeknights.

So... I'm really happy with the classes I'm teaching this year, though. The honors kids are so much fun and I can be the teacher-personality I want to be with them because they very rarely need discipline. The L.A. connections kids are fun in a completely different way, and the lessons they are learning/need to learn go way beyond the academic. This year (my third), I have taught kids in all three grades at the high school for the first time. Finally I will have more than a few kids to cheer for at graduation! And my classroom is also in the main part of the building this year, rather than in a remote wing of the attached Job Development Center, so I see kids and colleagues more regularly, which is great.

Also going on: We just finished our second week of official swim team practice in the pool-- though we've been conditioning for a month. There was some drama with my salary/job description at the beginning, but I finally got a co-coach to work with and she's terrific. The kids are also very good and are such hard workers this year.

Aaaand: Riverbank Poetry Project was off to a slow start (in terms of my involvement) because of my schedule, but I had about 9 kids show up to the last open mic and will have more next time. That's so great!

The Bench Project is going... I'm really frustrated by my co-chair's personal timeline, but it's because we haven't been able to communicate as well as I would have liked. Come spring, we'll have some awesome art benches downtown and I'll be thrilled that the entire thing is over. : )

That's enough of my schedule.

Finally, I think that my parents and Joe are getting to know each other better-- and he's been invited to all family functions now (including both seasons of Michigan). I'm relieved.

However, I miss all my friends that don't still live in Hamilton. Which means everyone from college, pretty much. Helen and Chris, I hope you're settled in and doing well. Helen, I'm finally reading Invisible Man-- my kids will be soon too. Made me think of you-- if you've got any wisdom, please share! Chris, I'm glad you like your job-- it sounds fun! I've spoken to Nate, Jared, and Dar recently. And always Bennett. So I've been lucky. : ) Speaking of Bennett, you and Nate have fun in Japan!!! I want pictures and stories!

Love everybody. Mwah!
