What airline was that with? I happened to need to fly back to the UK last week with crutches and my experience was not bad - that was with Icelandair into Manchester. I did a post about it if you care to read. When I had to request assistance a few years ago after top surgery, I had a dreadful experience in Atlanta but Manchester was brilliant. It's ridiculous how it varies so much depending on the airline and the airport.
That was with BA! Extortionate prices for some really crap help! I'll have a look at your post now... It sounds like they sorted stuff out pretty nicely for you, and that's great :) I think it's LHR to blame rather than BA, because BA had everything sorted at BCN both times. It just makes me skeevy about flying, something I'm gonna be doing about twice a month
BA are getting really expensive but extremely craptastic with it. Mind you Heathrow is not getting to be the best airport either, it's just too big and too busy :-/
Maybe if you're going to be flying twice a month, the people at the airport will get to know you. Not that that should be necessary but sometimes it helps.
Thankfully my experience was sorted out quite nicely. It was just the last thing I needed right then though *sigh*
LHR once forgot to board me or the other person with mobility issues because they had to take us down in the lift, wtf. Nearly missed the flight. Dickheads.
