My dad has a quote in his office: "God put on Earth do accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind that I will never die!" It's true, in a sense, that we have a very detailed world, and human greed can never be satiated - You will never be able to accomplish everything that you want to do.
I would say then that "Living in the moment" is a far better ideal. Instead of trying to do so many things that you do them all, instead do whatever strikes your mood. And at the end of the day if you can say, "I'm satisfied with the way today turned out" you've struck a great victory. The things that you truly want will come in the natural course of life, and you'll find yourself much happier for it.
Of course, nihilism is always a suitable alternative too. But you always were too full of life for it :)
Take care,
Daedalus.
