Leathermouth and Reggie 8/26/08
J crew hop on the J Train
Johnny(vocals for Terror Takes To Sound) and Nick(bass player) picked Jessica and I up at 5PM. I'm freaking out because why the hell is Nick in the car I don't have a ticket for him. Then Johnny says we are just dropping Nick off. For about 10 minutes Johnny and Nick won't stop asking us who we are meeting tonight. I just said that it would have been easier if Matt was here so we don't know if you will meet him anymore. I had to show Nick Frank's name and he was like yeah I have no idea who that is. Then the fucker texted Johnny Frank's name. Johnny just went ooohhhh. I don't think he knew who Frank was though.haha
Then was the two hour drive to The Avalon. Johnny always makes us worship the cube of doom. It's this random ass cube coming out of the Discovery Channel Science Center. We have to do metal hands with spirit fingers. Jessica just decided to bow to the cube.haha We got their when doors opened and I got all of my cameras in because no one checked us. I was super excited.haha The bathrooms where so fucking nice they had candy and I don't know it was just nicer then my whole house.haha
New Tomorrow are on stage and I'm standing next to Johnny and Jess is in front of us texting her lovers and taking a few pictures. I'm using my Nikon D200. It's used and the person before me broke it so it takes forever to find the right shutter speed. I was taking a million pictures because I wanted the right shutter for Leathermouth. I'm talking to Johnny and then BAM I get dragged away to an alley way and I know right away they want my camera. I say you can have my memory card. He just drags me out and I'm so scared I forgot how to format my camera.haha I'm just standing there with a bunch of security, bands and crew all looking at me... I was shaking so badly I thought they we going to throw face against the pavement. They where like normally we just kick out kids like you. In my head I was like are you fucking kidding me? Just because I have a fucking camera? That doesn't even work half the time.haha Then they told me I had to put it in my car but it was Johnny's car so I had to go back find Johnny and get him to put my camera away. He was fine with it but I felt bad. Jessica was flipping out when I got back. Needless to say I have no idea how New Tomorrows set was it's all kinda a blur after being interrogated...
Warship was on next and none of us liked them so we walked around and sat in the back. In the corner of my eye I see a white leg and then followed by John Hambone. I said Jess Frank's right there in the alley. She tells me and Johnny to stay. Why I have no idea and I'm kinda bummed about it now but whatever. She comes back after about 5 minutes shaking but smiling and laughing non stop. We still didn't want Johnny to know what was going on so Jess wrote in a text that she talked to Frankie. Frank was talking to some girl and then turned around but Hambone tapped him on the shoulder and pointed to Jess. Jessica said hi my name is Jessica....Cortez! Matt's cousin! and I have friend I want you to meet. He said oh yeah hi nice to see you again and no problem after the show. In his sweet scratchy voice.haha Jess was like I feel like such a goob. We where like why? She said I forgot my last name!haha She just went what hot men make me melt.haha She said Craig Arreson was there and that made me super excited for Johnny. I just went you have to impress him, Johnny just went I impress everyone.haha
Next was MC Chris and the whole time we wondered where his helium was. He was just a little too "Hey Mickey your so fine your so fine you blow my mind" for us. Plus his set lasted forever. Craig was on the balcony watching the set and looked bored to tears and I didn't blame him.haha We went over to Leathermouth's merch and talked to John Hambone. He was so nice! He was like hi I'm John. In my head I was going yeah I know who you are. I was debating about asking him about Pencey but thought better of it. I asked him how he liked the tour and he said he was having a blast and this was his and Bobby Venom's first time to California. I was a bit shocked since MCR are out here 24/7. You would think Frank would take John with him at least once. I drag Jess everywhere with me.haha I asked him if he went to Disneyland and he said he can't afford it and that he's been to Disney World and thats better. I said yeah we are the rejected first child. It was kinda awkward because Jess and Johnny didn't say anything and neither did Bobby. John called Jess the alley girl and then Bobby looked up and John went oh no I meant that in a strictly platonic way.haha I gave John Johnny's CD and he said he doesn't have a CD player but would look them up on MySpace. After that we left to go hang out in the alley and see if Frank was there. He wasn't of course.
Then finally Leathermouth came on. Holly shit they where fanfuckingtastic! I didn't know who to focus on. I wanted to record as much of it as possible because it was just too amazing for words. I'm just glade that I recorded most of it because I always forget live shows which is why I am a band photographer. I can't even tell you what happened other then it was amazing! Oh and Jamia was watching with a photographer who was her friend. I was little jealous but then I just went well I have Johnny someday that will be me...
After the set we where trying to find Frank in the alley and then Johnny stops us and goes thats Jepha! I look and go oh shit that is! Then we both look at Jess and go your the famous one, you talk to him.haha She was too scared to. Johnny refused to because he said it's lame. A fan was just done talking to him so I asked if he had time to talk. He said yeah no problem. Jess and I took a picture with him. My camera was still on video and Johnny just screams I can't take fucking pictures! Then I went shit it's still on video and changed it. Jepha was cracking up.haha While Johnny is taking the picture he's saying I think you went into my work once. I know he's just shitting with Jepha. So I said he's just kidding right as Johnny takes the picture. I look retarded.haha But Jepha asked where he worked and Johnny said HotTopic at The Spectrum and he said he was there for about 5 minutes once. Then he asked who we where their to see and Johnny said Reggie. I told him that Jess's cousin works for Frank. He said oh yeah Frank is the nicest dude in the planet I love him to death. Jess said do you know who Matt Cortez is? Jepha said yeah I love him but I haven't seen him in about 3 years. Jess said thats my cousin. He said oh well next time you talk to him tell him I say hi and I miss him. Jess texted Matt and he told us to tell Jepha he says hi and missed him too.
We hung out in the alley for a while. Jepha went back there and said hi to us. He was so fucking nice! Jess gave Jepha Johnny's CD and he said he would listen to it. After a while we went back and found a spot to watch Reggie.
James came out in the mummy costume and just stood their for awhile groaning. I was dieing laughing. Then he took that off and was wearing his Hannah Montanan T-shirt and pink sweat pants. I saw his ball sack the whole night threw those pants.haha Frankie was all smiles and shaking his head when James would say inappropriate things. I loved when Frank screamed I don't know why it just made me smile and damn he's a good bass player. The guitarist ran over to Frank and put a towel on Frank's head and then Frank lifted his arms and he rubbed both pits and Frank's back. Frank was giggling the whole time. Really though the show belonged to James. I was so pissed that I ran out of memory cards. I was hoping that they wouldn't have taken my Nikon away. I could have easily taken pictures with my Nikon for James because it would be impossible for security to get to me. I'm still really bummed about that. For their last song everyone came back in whigs and plaid button up shirts. They looked like they came out of the Smells Like Teen Spirit video. I was so pissed I didn't get any pictures or videos of that. It was hilarious! James pretty much makes my life complete.haha
After the show we hung out in the Alley waiting for Frank. Hambone came out and gave me a high five and told us to have a safe ride back home and I told him to have a good tour. It felt like deja vu because thats exactly what Matt says to us after every show and I always tell him that.haha Then they kicked us out and told us to leave. We walked to the merch section again and I found Mel again. I hugged her goodbye. We talked to New Tomorrow. They where so nice. We gave them Johnny's CD and they promised they would listen to it and said they love hearing new music. They asked Johnny how he got the name Terror Takes To Sound and he told them it was from Micheal Jackson's song Thriller. They didn't remember so Johnny had to sing Thriller and he was so self conscious about it that he didn't even sound like himself. They thought it was awesome though. Danny told Johnny that he loved his hat and it reminded him of the Indiana Jones hat. I said really? Doesn't he look like a Jonas Brother in it? Brandon just went oohhh that was a good burn! Danny said you know what now that you mention it he does. Johnny said yeah at our last show we went up there and said we where the Jonas Brothers.haha I told them we saw them at Bamboozle Left. We didn't see them play but we saw them around. They thought we saw them live and I didn't want to burst their bubble. They asked it was saw MCR set. I said yeah well Jess's cousin works for My Chem. He said oh yeah is he a tech or something? She said yeah he's Frank's, do you know who Matt Cortez is? Danny said oh yeah that dude! We stood right behind him. He's so amazing at his job. I have so much respect for him! When Frank's guitar was slightly out of tune Matt was already there with a new one. He knew before Frank did when he was going to break a string and was there with a brand new guitar. He had so many tuners and guitars to tune and he did it so fast! I said yeah we where in front screaming his name so we could stand there and everyone looked at us like we where crazy. I kept saying no we really do know him! Danny just laughed at us. He said everyone thought he was Bert and he would wave to kids. A bunch of kids came up to him and asked for autographs and he felt bad and signed them as Bert. He said he didn't want to disappoint them and say sorry I'm just in that band New Tomorrow. We asked if he saw Jepha there and he flipped out saying no way Jepha is here! I said you should go up to him and say hey whats up I'm in your band.haha He said nah he can tell.haha They where so nice and wanted to keep talking to us even though we kept getting kicked out.
Jessica wrote Frankie a note saying sorry I missed you heres my friends CD. She gave it to John and he said he already gave it to Frank. I was like oh shit Frank holds my destiny in his hands... Normally I'm totally fine with Frankie but as soon as Hambone said that I just got a little excited and a little sick to my stomach. Jess just said oh well you can have that one and just give this one to Frank. He said whatever and took the CD and the note.
We left the venue a little sad that we didn't get to meet Frankie or James but we had a good time. I was just happy that Johnny was happy. Then we got lost lost at 2AM. They closed down the free way. Johnny was starving and we finally found a Jack In A Box that was open. He almost ran into the center divider. I screamed his name so loud.haha Then Jessica went oh shit Frank has my number now, I wrote that note on my business card. We all started laughing and secretly hoped Frank would call her.haha Then we went in a circle and got lost some more till we finally found our way home. I would have to say getting lost was almost as fun as the show. When Terror Takes To Sound goes on tour I'm banning Johnny from diving.haha Johnny still says we got lost because Jessica didn't warship the cube properly...
