Yesterday I was given the news that my cat, Honey, has FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus). FeLV is kind of like HIV, it kills the immune system -- which obviously will eventually be the death of my cat. There is no possible way to determine just how long, or short, her life will be. However, because she contracted the virus at such a young age, it is most likely that she will only have a short time to live. Only 2-3% of all cats in the United States will get the FeLV each year ... Honey had to be among that very small percentage. Fortunately, Boo tested negative for the virus and should live a long healthy life. But, my heart is definitely saddened to know that I won't have my Honey for quite as long.
