Those who don't

Those who don’t live in Irvine think of us with preconceptions of perfection. They think we are a sheltered city with architecturally advanced high schools and really evenly placed palm trees. They think jealous thoughts when they see all the Louis Vuitton-carrying, Mercedes-Benz-driving teenagers we send to UCLA and UC Berkley. They are people who believe in a stereotype and watch too much of The O.C.

But we haven’t proven them wrong. We know how high the association fees are in our gated communities, and that the Irvine Company seemingly re-paves the streets every 4 months; and we know that the students’s parking lot at Northwood High School makes the teachers’s parking lot look like a used car sale.

Without a need for change, we are safe in our apathy for other cities. But watch us visit our neighbor of another class, Santa Ana, and our knees go shakity-shake and our car windows get rolled up tight and our eyes look straight.

Yeah. That is how you pop the bubble.
