How long is a metre?
*chuckle* I want the scientific explanation of how long it is. I know it, but wondered how common knowlege it was. No googling it either. ;p

Initially, in 1875 or some such it was the length of a platinum bar that they stored in France somewhere.
Then, in 1960, it was..."1,650,763.73 vacuum wave-lengths of monochromatic orange light emitted by krypton atom of mass 86" or words to that effect.
Then in 1983, they revised it to... "The length of a path travelled by light in a vacuum during an interval of exactly 1/299792458s of a second." Which is what f said. lol, and much easier than the krypton atom thingy.
