So, we had to all wake up at the crack of dawn today to start day 2 orientation. We had a housing meeting at 8 in the Commons. The Commons is the housing for the Epcot employees, so everyone there are international employees from every country shown in Epcot, which is pretty cool. Their housing is like the best of the best, a little unfair, but its all good. So the meeting was like a huge lecture in this HUGE room ... we learned all about our apartments, and how to do things like shut of water when the toilets overflow, lol. We went over housing codes, and showing our IDs, cleaning, taking out trash, inspections, quiet hours, etc. etc. We talked about grocery games, such as grocery BINGO, which we will participate in, lmao, we're so cheap. They also told us about Formal and the variety show, and auditions for stuff, etc. etc. It was cool.
Then we heard from the people at Disney. They talked a lot about setting up bank accounts, rules and regulations, work related stuff, ya know. They also talked about programs and co-ops that Disney has. The talked about this park and resort that they have for children with terminally ill diseases, and that they were looking for volunteers to take them around the park, and arrange exclusive meet and greets with them. I really really want to do. They told us this story about how this little girl just wanted to come to Disney before she died, and the day she was gonna leave to come here, she was rushed to the hospital. When Disney got word of it, they told staff and Cinderella was leaving and overheard the story. So she, with Disney help, went over to the hospital and spent the whole night with the little girl and had tea, and talked. Right after Cinderella left, the little girl died. Her parents sent a letter to Disney saying how happy they were that she spent her last night fulfiling her dreams with a fearless heart and a smile on her face.
So as I was nearly in tears, I knew I wanted to do this program. I think its really great that they offer something like that.
Then, on a lighter note, they talked about the new thrill ride opening in Spring 2006 in Animal Kingdom called "Expedition Everest." Aparently you get in a train car and take a guided tour of a replica of Mt. EVerest, when you get to the top, your train is attacked by a Yetti and your train is derailed and thrown off the mountain backwards. So the ride is all built now, and its now the tallest mountain in FL, its HUGE, you can see it from the highway, its cool. But the best part is, employees and cast members get to test ride it all weekend!!! I CANT WAIT!!!
So after all that, we went to our I-9 signing, and job placement. To my surprise my role has changed! and for the better. (Sorry, we cant talk about our jobs on journals or blogs, but you can IM me for details) So I'm totally pumped. Being a performer is one of the hardest jobs to get on property aparently, so everyone was facinated, and proud to say they met one of the performers. The only downside to performance is the fact that I have 5, 9-hour rehearsals starting friday. So I'll be learning dances and shows all weekend, busting my ass, but it will be worth it!
My Traditions class is tomorrow at 6AM which is gonna suck. Traditions is so serious here, you need to take it to work here, and you cant do anything till u complete it. Classes, especially Traditions, is very dressy here. Most of the time you need to be in a collared shirt, khakis, and dress shoes. Even for my rehearsals!!!! Only difference being that, in rehearsals we can wear sneakers with our dress clothes. (tacky) I also was sized for my Disney issued underwear today, lol. you have to wear it under your costume. crazyness....
so... since me and 2 of my roomates have Traditions at 6, we're callin it an early night.
BUT... TOMORROW .... PLEASURE ISLAND... ALLLLLLL NIGHT W/ the Roomates, gonna be SIICK!
So call me, keep in touch! Miss you all, hope everyone is enjoying back to school time!
