We hung out with Shannon & Gary tonight. We actually had quite a bit of fun, in my opinion. We talked about our views on capital punishment, abortion, pornography, feminism in general, and religion. The religious discussions were predominantly based on the Christian faith. Kelly and I are Christian; Shannon & Gary are not

Thanks for the compliment on the journal. I took the picture with my digital camera about five minutes before it went on the page. The camera was kinda dusty because we hadn't used it since about 2001.
up with Jesus, yes, sort of, but the argument was more on the part of feminine equality, not religious doctrine. I KNOW that Jesus wouldn't want us to look at porn, but since Shannon & Gary don't believe in Christ then that argument wouldn't hold up.
I'm sorry that you have fallen away, in a large since, so have I. I pray every night but I don't read my many bibles anymore. I wish that I did, but I guess since I have read the Bible in it's entirety it doesn't seem as fulfilling. I know what it says. Also, I'm afraid that reading it now would only cause me to use it for political debate as that is my predominant focus currently. We aren't supposed to use it in that way, so I don't want to anymore than I already do. I do plan on writing a book about the "religious rights" paradoxical doctrines in comparison to scripture, though. I think that this will help people understand that mixing secular politics with Biblical scripture is, at least in America, like trying to fix a dish washer with a microwave manual. We aren't a theocracy; we are a democracy, and I think that politicians need to realize that, ya know?
As for your faith...I think that it's still there, just on the back-burner next to the trials and tribulations of this world. I think that is why Pastor Cletus always warned us about music and other secular art-forms. They can become a personal god almost, and the trick is not letting that happen. I'm getting pretty dangerous with my own secular philosophies as well.
Here's one:
Canonization was enacted by the Roman-Catholic EMPIRE! So tell me, was there no socio-political agenda? Was it COMPLETELY ordained? If we have free-will and God knows that we mess up, and we know that He knows that we mess up, how do we know that the government that compiled the "ordained" books didn't mess up, AT ALL? With governments making errors at almost every step throughout history, how can we trust one over another? How can we trust a government that was one of the most powerful in history and didn't have any accountability within it's borders?
Tricky stuff, I'm trying to work through it, though. So tell me, don't we both have faith issues?
