some ideas

Well, I've been reading a-lot of stuff tonight. I read a little in "Hegemony or Survival" again, I checked out this site, and was pleasantly surprised. I didn't know that such a creature existed. I strongly urge any of you who read my journal to check it out, for relief's sake. I also watched a little bit of the pep rally they call the ( Read more... )

you make a good point. Education reform would definitely have to be a part of it, and I think that a direct correlation between the education you have and the income you earn would be more evenly scaled in my make believe economy. I do think that they are both extremely important. They are both demanding in totally different ways, and both deal with science. For example, while health care people are demanded to work very hard at what they do, so are teachers. The impetus for teachers to work hard at what they do isn't as rewarded. Teaching is also responsible for the overall "thought" of a country. The better educated the country, presumably, the more creative the results in policy making, etc. Also, teachers are, in a sense, interdependent with doctors. Educating them from the beginning to the end.

My main point, I feel, was lost. By having a more even pay scale in the private sector between all jobs would create a greater quality in life, because the motivation for doing the job you have is because you WANT to do it not because it yields a greater income.

Education is not always a fair game either. Some people cannot afford to go to school to become a doctor, and therefore are left out of the possibility to have a good education. I agree, that if you sit on your ass then you don't necessarily deserve more pay, but there are plenty of people that I have worked with in many service industry positions that have degrees and are making close to minimum wage. The high paying jobs are slowly disappearing because of corporate greed and higher margins. My proposal was aimed to create more evenly paying jobs across the board.

I know that Heather works in the health care industry, and I know that you watch her work her patootie off. I wasn't trying to attack the health care profession b/c they do work very very hard. Like I said before, I believe that a system like this would allow more people to obtain the jobs that they want, not the jobs that pay more. Which would have a synergistic effect on all sectors, including health care.

Sorry, if i upset you.:)

you didn't upset me at all. i was just trying to state a point.

i think what you're going for though is a socialist/communistic economy/society. the reason we have jobs that yield different salaries is because we run on capitalism. which basically, when you get through the hum-ho and theories of other government ideologies is that its all the same. some are just more openly greedy about it. some are more, well...we'll say sly.
and i'm not saying that one is better than the other.
communism looks fabulous on paper. but no one has been able to really, effectively make it work.

i'm getting away from myself. the point is, i don't think that a country that has run on capitalism for its entire life will ever be able to change entirely. i do think some things can be done about education reform (to give everyone a possibility at a fair and equal higher education beyond grade 12) maybe not to the extent of everyone having the chance at being a doctor, but at least to a BA degree.
a lot of countries, france for example, have fabulous educational systems. by the entry to high school students must take a test to determine their educational abilities. from there they are either sent to university or to trade school. their educational system has been run this way for a long time now and they seem to be running smoothly as a society. in other words, some people are just predisposed to learning certain things, and others aren't.

i think this delima is a philosophic one. i think it will take hundreds of years with the right persons to make it work.
