Oh James. . . and I dont mean that in the "bond girl" sexy way it may have come across. But Oh, James.
I just wanted to take a minute to share what was in the newspaper today for the business section of the Minneapolis Star Tribune; The second I read it I wanted to share it with you, but I'm going to take this opportunity while I reply to your post.
First page in the Business section, which I guess in most places I have lived would be filled with articles on what Mega-Corps are doing to cut cost and labor, instead here has a 1/4 page picture of an attractive, 28 year old girl with pixie-cut blonde hair and a beaming smile. Her name is Ellie Ogura. She is a district manager for Starbucks in the Twin Cities.
The title for the article is "Generation X Takes Charge". Now if there were ever a Douglas Coupland efficianado that I would go to for answers to trivia regarding the fellow or what he is written, it would be you, James, so we don't have to go into the usage of "Generation X" for as generic it is to us; But I found it a little admiring that my newspaper would dare to brandish the term as a positive aspect of business in the twin cities.
The article goes on to describe the distinctive style that Gen-x managers may incorporate into thier supervisory positions as compared to the baby-boomer generation before them. and get this, how that is a GOOD THING. I'm not sure I would have read such "dogma" in New Jersey, Florida, or Dallas.
I guess what I am saying is that should you choose to come here, even to visit, small things like this will help in a sense of appreciating some of the things that help me realize (aside from my B) why this is such a great place to live. Granted, there is still a huge battle to be fought out there, but when you station yourself in a place that provides more positive lights than you are used to, it graces you.
Dunno if that makes any sense, but it sounded decent in my head
on a completely different note, regarding your post, you brought me to tears. I'm with you 100% on that feeling you got after hitting the end button and am willing to get behind you and Special K in any adventure you choose to undertake that may bring you even 10 miles closer to MN.
It's all about the baby steps. You guys should just try to see about a three or four day weekend out here. Maybe look into some cheap round-trip tickets and that way I can let the city speak for itself.
I dunno. I'm selfish in craving your presence sometimes, but bottom line, I'm keeping the faith that we will simply get to hug one day and say "Hi" face to face. I'd pretty much just be happy with that. Maybe not satisfied, but happy.
it's funny....i felt bad talking so long, but it wasn't long enough. i was happy that you and becca were going to spend some time together. kelly and i were just now talking about how the drive to rachael wouldn't be too bad from there either. and we were also talking about how we could save up the necessary dolla dolla bills to get there.
and, as far as if it makes sense, yes, it does. like i was telling you about vancouver....that place graced us, and it was only for a few days.
we aren't very good at baby steps, we like to JUMP like woah.
