NB: I've decided to do what Val did here. I see that I have most [but not all] of my movie quotes guessed. So, I'll post the rest with hints in hopes you'll get them. [See
Original for updated guesses; Italics means it has been correctly guessed.]
#1 - "Oh if I just wasn't a lady, what wouldn't I tell that varmit!" It's one of Verna's favorite movies as it takes place in several of Verna's home towns. She likes it even though she finds it a bit risque, as the lead character is something of a scarlet woman.
#7 - "I don't know. It's seems like such a strange sort of thing to want to do, you know, ridiculous. Like someone else putting their finger up your nose or something." Ah, for crappy book-to-movie adaptations of the early nineties starring Americans with bad Irish accents, and Alan Cumming.
#13 - "Cause yesterday I walked out of the joint after losing four years of my life and you're cold-decking 'Teen Beat' cover boys." I'm surprised you men didn't catch this one. It's a remake, true, but a good one at that with some fine actors who took a gamble on it. The Rat Pack would be proud.
#14 - "But Elizabeth is yours. Watch her as she grows; she's yours. She's a Tudor! Get yourself a son off of that sweet, pale girl if you can - and hope that he will live! But Elizabeth shall reign after you! Yes, Elizabeth - child of Anne the Whore and Henry the Blood-Stained Lecher - shall be Queen! And remember this: Elizabeth shall be a greater queen than any king of yours! She shall rule a greater England than you could ever have built! Yes - MY Elizabeth SHALL BE QUEEN! And my blood will have been well spent!" Truthfully, I didn't expect anyone to get this. BUT, one never knows with Faire people. They do love their Tudor history, as do I; one person in particular. So, I'll give you all one last chance on this one before I'll have to cut off your heads.
#16 - "I could more easily forgive his vanity had he not wounded mine." This is a relatively new favorite, and another book-to-movie adaptation. Erin, I am ashamed you didn't get this as we watched it together. My pride is wounded.
#18 - "And what I say is, them as pinched it, done her in." I thought more people would've known this one, especially since they knew Streetcar; this is another oldie, afterall. If I were married to Seth MacFarlane, he'd get it. So would Stewie, cause he's modeled after the lead male.
#19 - "There it is, now we both know the sordid truth: I sweat, and you're deaf. Aren't we a fine pair of misfits?" I must be honest here, I don't particularly consider this movie to be a "favorite." I don't believe I have 20 "favs." I have a lot of movies that I enjoy watching, but only a select die-hard ultimates. I just enjoyed this quote too much to let it slip by, especially since I'm working on my impression of this great actress who dated Spencer Tracey. John's heard the voice, doing this quote, nonetheless. If no one gets this, I shall be forced to quarantine myself. Maybe pee in some milk bottles, too, and let my toenails grow.
ETA: [rubs fingertips together] "Good, Good." You have done well, my children. All have been guesed except #14, so I'll just give in on that one. The name of the movie is Anne of the Thousand Days. It's about everyone's favorite beheaded Tudor wife, Anne Boleyn, starring Genvieve Boujold and Richard Burton. I recommend it; the costumes are great.
