TOW All The Scarves

Today, nay yesterday, my mother, father, sisters, and one niece and one nephew and I all went to Shady Maple for brunch and then a long day of shopping for presents and holiday decorations.

Shady Maple is, in a word, awesome! Their gift shop is spectacular---we saw some really neat stuff including this pink frog that you can sit on the edge of a shelf, it is at least a foot in length, and has this dopey/happy smile on its face and it’s legs crossed, arms resting on the shelf too. We all PIMPED. Had it not been $50, I would have bought it for mom for Christmas (when she first got glasses, her brothers called her Froggy, so we have a lot of little frog stuff for our Summer décor). There was also this other thing that I was gonna buy Dolores, but it too was too much and I thought, “Sure it’s Pee-In-Your-Pants funny, but what would she do with it?”

They have lots of pretty colored glass things there too. I <3 colored glass. I like plain glass and crystal, too. It’s that whole "Oooo, a sparkly" thing. It shimmers and looks beautiful in different lights. And colored glass is so neat cause you can get the different colors out and…and…it’s just cool, OK. I know I’m a dork, and I’m proud of it. I didn’t get any colored glass though, cause the one I really wanted was a bit over-priced. It was gold with a slight opalescence to it and it had---and this is why it was expensive---hand painted white flowers on it. Very pretty.

After we were done in the gift shop, and Sal had exclaimed for joy over everything he saw, we trekked down the road to the Flower and Garden Warehouse. This is where people go to get stuff for like weddings and things. Buying in bulk is an understatement. I bought a basket! A BASKET! Me! It’s a neat multi-colored one made of pussy willow bark. I bought it to hold my hand towels in the laundry. I’m kicking myself for not buying too though, cause once I came home, I realized that I needed one for my votive candles. [mutters]

This was a really neat place with lots of stuff that no one really needs, it’s just good to buy and decorate with. After putting Mom’s large basket and even larger faux ice wreath in the car and waking Dad up from his nap, we went to the upper level. Oh gracious me the upper level! They had a jewelry counter. But, that was not the big deal of the day, as it would otherwise have been.

We get up there to find Holly, Hope, Kayla, and Sal ready to pay. And in their cart they have these fuzzy, ever-so-soft scarves. I scoffed at first, cause they’re very Holly in that glitzy trendy way. However, the more I saw them, the more I liked them. So, I decided to get one, and give it to the ‘rents to give me for a Christmas present. Bumming hard cause Kayla took one in the beautiful Purple, I perused the plethora of colors and patterns and found a beautiful Teal-Green. Which is a very un-me color, but it does funky things to my eyes, so I’m LOVING it. Hope saw it and laughed saying, "I had that one in my hand!" (Hope and I tend to similar tastes; I’m the only one that has taste REMOTELY similar to her in our family.) She got, instead, one in a Bright Blue that did funky stuff to her eyes too. Her eyes are like mine but darker, so where I would’ve been washed out by her blue, it enhanced the green in her eyes. And my Teal-Green enhanced the green in mine.

Mom, who was in need of a scarf decided they were too cool to pass up, too. Mom is a very "Berries and Blue" lady in regards to colors. And the softest pink they had was a mauve that washed her out. The Wine-colored one, however, was perfect and looked nice against her black coat. By this point, Holly had joined us at the scarves and was lusting over a nice Rustic Tangerine color. I had looked at this too, but I decided against it; I don’t wear enough of those shades of colors. And I did shake it off as too “Holly” for my taste. She already had one in a red and black pattern, but not a solid. So, I bought it for her in exchange for my hair color tomorrow. :) She looks excellent in it, as with most warm colors. She’s got awesome coloring for oranges and browns. Which are set off by her blue as the sky blue eyes.

So, everyone had one. Everyone, except Hope’s daughter, Natalia, who couldn’t be there with us cause she had school. So, Kayla and I helped Mom pick out a putrid Bubble Gum Pink for her that she will just love. It is to be her Christmas present on Christmas Eve. Which is where we’re all gonna get our picture taken with the scarves on. It’s cheesy and dumb, but it’s cool at the same time. All the girls have matching scarves!

After the scarf fiasco, we all went into the Ornament Room and spent a good two hours in there as Holly, Hope, and Mom all found awesome decorations for their trees. Hope is doing her tradition Victorian Tree and got some awesome burgundy and sage stuff. Holly decided to go with a snow and ice theme (kinda the idea I had for our tree, but Mom didn’t want to do: the difference with us was I wanted more of an iridescent snow and ice, not the plain white/silver Holly and Kayla got. They also got some nifty touches Royal Blue in frosted bells. Mom got star toppers for the Christmas lights, which will look awesome (but it’s still not my theme idea).

This was followed by a trip through Greenery World, as I call it, where Sal was too excited about the fake trees with attached lighting. Kayla and I went to rest our injuries at the café, and get a drink. We paid, and then spent another half hour sniffing the yummy Yankee Candles in the candle shop [Must. Buy. Blueberry. Muffin.] And thus ended the day.

And if you read all of that and still want to be friends with me, I am amazed.

Also, here is a thinger I did earlier...cool, eh?
