Today was more of the same HS bullshit that accompanies the nature of the species. However, this was my entire day as today (and tomorrow) I subbed for an English teacher who actually had teaching lesson plans to follow. I was pleased at this chance to actually teach and not just sit and babysit.
What was the coolest about it was that one of her classes (she had two periods each of Career Communication, English 1-Speech, and this) was MYTHOLOGY! I actually knew stuff. And I didn't just know stuff. I knew all sorts of shit and I never even really read this particular bit of Greek Literature---The House of Atreus. I read everything else but this particular story and was all pleased with myself when I could tell them things that they didn't know. I was also arrogantly (and most of you all know I have NO self esteem whatsoever, so arrogance is a near phenomenon) pleased to help them realize the correct pronounciations of the names AND meanings of some of them. Tomorrow, I promised them that I would give them a Greek phrase to learn---if they behaved. About the pronounciations though, there were some long-dead Hellenistic elders turning over in their graves this morning.
Several of my classes thought that because they ahd a sub, it was a free-for-all. I remember those days. And, I remember not wanting to work when there was a sub either. Karma is a bitch. So, my periods 2 and 3 were effing nightmares. Otherwise, it was a pretty dull day.
AND< in case you hadn't figured it out, this subbing thing is the reason my journal here has been updated 2-3 times a day. I have time on my hands in which to write nice entries. It's easy. Write a line, look up to see that the smelly kid in the corner is not flinging rubber cement snot balls at the slutty girl he likes, write another line...
Some other interesting things about my day:
1- I called some terribly VIP during my PREP period and received some GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD news---Oh no, I've said too much! *winks*
2- During lunch duty, I was checked out by some ethnic Marine Corps recruiters.
3- I wrote a poem with the magnetic poetry this teacher had on her blackboard:
ironed mad ones incubate winter needs
beneath
these less sad
