Update from Memphis

Well, tonight is my second night here. After putting up with all the bullshit yesterday, filling out an I-9 and W-4 form was a welcome change today.

Yesterday, I got here at 2:30 PM local time (which, by the way, this post is in Central Daylight Time).  After having gotten very little sleep on a Greyhound bus overnight, I get out to the street, and they had just taken the last person they could fit on the van to the Holiday Inn.  The driver said he'd be back around 4. So, there I was in the middle of Memphis, TN, along with all the druggies, hookers, and bums.  Across the street from the bus station was a TGI Fridays and a Denny's.  At the time I was so tired that I figured I'd wait until I got to the hotel to figure food out.  Big mistake!  I get to the hotel about 4:30 to find probably the most immaculate hotel in Memphis.  This is all well and good, except that it's also one of the most isolated hotels in Memphis.  There was only one restaurant in walking distance, a catfish place.  After listening to others who had been there and checked it out, I learned that it was more like a Red Lobster price wise (IE.  $20 a plate).  Then, I find out that there's a restaurant in our "fabulous" hotel, but that's even worse ($20 for a caeser's salad).  Finally, I was out in front, when a Chinese delivery guy pulls up.  Me, and about 20 other Swift potential employees, swarm to his vehicle for a menu.  Well, long story short, I eat there.  I absolutely fear any Chinese place that isn't in Michigan (mainly because Chinese isn't really Chinese food, but American Chinese people's idea of Chinese food).  So, I ended up ordering from their American menu.  For $7, I got 18 (decent sized) shrimp and a big box of sand baggy fries.

Today, as I mentioned, we actually filled out all the "new hire" paperwork.  Afterwords, I went in on half of a Domino's pizza with Crystal, one of my fellow Michiganders down here, and friend.  Tonights been a night of a little more relaxation, as I spent most of the night at the hotel's bar (not drinking, of course) sitting on this infernal contraption.

Now, before I go to bed (only to wake up at 4:30 AM), I need to shave and shower.  That being said, it's time for bed!  Sweet Dreams!
