Well, it was back in November that I left Radio Shack. Now I'm currently at ABC Warehouse. That, too, will change in about two weeks. I am going down to Millington, TN to begin driver's training so I can drive big rigs. Yep! I'm going to be a trucker! The way I figure, I spend so much time sitting on my ass here at ABC, why not do it in a truck and see the US? The company I'm lined up to work with is Swift Transport. Main reason I set myself up for this program, even though it doesn't have the greatest reviews from what I hear, is that they were the first to offer me a job. Under the program, I will be contracted to work for them for a year. Once my debt for the school is paid off, I can then go and get a job at another company, who may pay better. If I understand things correctly, for my first 3 months or so I will make about 26 cents per mile. With an average of 3,000 miles a week, that works out to about $750 a week. Even if I only average 2,000 miles, that's still decent at about $530 per week.
Keeping all that in mind is going to make these last two weeks here at ABC difficult. Not so much the money aspect of it, but the job itself. I like the idea of getting to travel the US.
Wish me luck!
