I-CON follow-up

Okay!  So!  I-Con!

Jeff and I managed to make it out there in less than five hours, surviving on Popcorn Chicken and Diet Coke both ways while having Incubus' whole catalog on a constant loop.  Let me tell you, driving through Iowa after the sun has gone down is slightly terrifying.  We kept expecting Pumpkinhead or that monster from Jeepers Creepers to fly out of nowhere and kill us.

After spending the night in a Motel 6 with a broken toilet, we made our way to the Adventureland Inn where the event was being held.  I gotta say I'm really digging one day cons.  You don't get the burnout you see from a three or four day con, and people come to buy more, so you get less of that famous "maybe tomorrow'll be better" denial that permeates so many comic artists at things like this.

Easily the highlight was showing off my work to Mike Worley, most famous for his work with Bongo Comics.  Getting a portfolio review from someone who used to work with the great Dan DeCarlo is alright in my book.  Complimented my designs on Koriko and Aiyeese, while suggesting I shrink the noses on my characters a little bit.  I told him "You think that's bad, you should've seen what I was drawing a year ago".

All in all a great experience.  I broke even for the weekend and may have a chance to build a new inking portfolio from all the pencillers there.  Here's hoping I get to do more soon.
