Because I appear to be procrastinating today, here's a transcript of the Meet the New Characters video. I've obviously only focused on the bits about Pottinger.
Stephanie Leonadis (Irisa): This year you'll discover some new characters who bring a real darkness into Defiance with the E-Rep.
Julie Benz (Amanda): We have Jim Murray playing Niles Pottinger...
Clip:
Unknown character: I never met a show-off who was quite as smart as he thought he was.
Pottinger: Well now that you finally have you can tell your grandkids all about it.
James: My character is the new Mayor of Defiance. He's a high-ranking officer for the Earth Republic. He's driven by perfection and a desire to improve the town, you know? He is genuinely Mayor for the right reasons, not just there for ulterior motives.
Clip:
Pottinger: You should remember that Churchill, because it's true.
Julie Benz: He's not all that he seems to be, you know? He's very charming and very British and fun but underneath that exterior there's a very warped, demented person on the inside.
Clip:
Pottinger: (addressing someone off screen) Well I don't. I call him resourceful. And dangerous.
James: He has a locker of history that is particularly twisted and is very challenging to him as a person and as a result that comes out in his personality.
Clip:
Amanda: That roller was parked in Hellbug country. You set them up!
Pottinger: Again, are you expecting me to answer that?
James: But also misunderstood from my point of view.
Clip:
Pottinger: Anything else?
Grant Bowler (Nolan): As the season goes along the presence of Pottinger...
Clip:
Amanda: Joshua Nolan, meet Niles Pottinger, our provisional Mayor.
Pottinger: So this is the notorious No Man Nolan? The Butcher of Yosemite? (Nolan makes an epically unimpressed face) Relax, Mr Nolan, you're very welcome here.
Grant Bowler: That becomes a trickier and trickier situation and I see that as not ending well...for Pottinger. (laughs)
James: So, as season two unfolds it heads and escalates towards an explosive ending, um, for every character pretty much involved. There's no holds barred, it's pretty strong, it's pretty hectic.
And while I'm on the subject, just a heads-up that I will be putting up discussion posts for each episode when they air in the States and when they air in the UK (the date of which hasn't been confirmed yet). As usual, feel free to share/discuss what you find re the show, but remember that some things are going to be best shared under a friendslock.
