I saw Choke.

I hate the idea of going to the movies.
Why do people want to sit in darkness side by side for 2 hours in uncomfortable seats?
It barely even counts as hanging out since you can only converse for about 10 minutes before and after the movie.

I hate it, i hate it, i hate it.

i like the whole experience. i like buying overpriced candy that will make my teeth hurt. i like looking at elaborate advertising schema in the lobby. i like sitting in the theatre before the show, making fun of the ads, the music, the people around me. i like watching a movie on a screen size and with a sound quality i could never dream of thinking of hoping to ever afford in a home theatre. i like it when only one person laughs at a joke, or something that isn't even really a joke, and it's a really crazy laugh. especially when that person is me. i like going to matinees and emerging into daylight all squinty and a little bit stunned.

also i live in a place that has maybe the best movie theatre ever. the alamo drafthouse, serves delish food and drink while you watch, also hosts awesome old cult movies with original actors present, music video sing alongs, live mystery science theatre type stuff, air guitar and air sex championships, and sponsors a party in a cave with booze tunes and bill murray. but that's a specific theatre.

i see where you're coming from but i see it as more of an experience than a necessary way to watch a movie (since it's obvi not, anymore). and i love that experience, though it may sometimes be uncomfortable and cost too much.
