Way to go! LiveJournal just changed its TOS to prohibit the use of Internet Explorer, text-only browsers and aggregators.
The problems: the new TOS prohibits:
"Employing and/or providing software programs, browser scripts, or other technologies that serve to block or substantially impair the display of advertisements on LiveJournal pages."
... and Microsoft's April security update for Internet Explorer does exactly that, blocking the full display of many rich media ads until the user clicks on the ad. So, anyone with the latest IE security update is apparently prohibited from using LiveJournal.
Ignoring that for the moment, you're also prohibited from following common security recommendations, including:
1. disabling ActiveX (has the side effect of preventing Flash and Shockwave ads from fully displaying)
2. disabling javascript (has the side effect of blocking display of many ads, particularly those using javascript animation).
Both are extremely common recommendations when new security issues are discovered.
It also prohibits use of the common IE setting to block animation of animated GIFs.
A wording change to:
"Employing and/or providing software programs, browser scripts, or other technologies whose primary purpose is to block or substantially impair the display of advertisements on LiveJournal pages."
would remove the issue and permit the use of secure browser settings and the latest version of IE.
