I think you and I both have a problem of expecting too much from gaming. All the furious campaign plotting, intros, etc., while they can be fun exercises in and of themselves, also tend to resolve down to "Who are we fighting tonight?" at the end, which is not really that interesting a question in the big scheme of things.

The urge to create a vibrant and detailed world is a good one, but it's kinda wasted on one to three three-hour game sessions a month, when the players' deepest investment is remembering an important NPC as "Baron Awebit" or Tharizdun as "not Cthulhu," y'know what I mean? RPGs are just not a good venue for the kind of emotional connection that heavy-duty prep is looking for.

The best way to approach it, it seems to me, is to remember "It's just a game, I should really just relax." Concentrate on what happens at the table, and screw the rest. Put that creative energy towards something that will yield more results (which in my case is my book, in your case may be Memories of the Dream or something else entirely). Let gaming be a game. That's what it's for, after all.
