It's been awhile...

Yes, I will admit it, I haven't felt the need to blog in a very long time. It's been well over a year, and honestly it's still hard to want to commit to writing on a blog. Facebook really has taken over as my place to vent, to chat, and to continue with most of my friendships.

Yesterday though I decided I would try to make a conscious effort to blog again.

This past year was quite the whirlwind of activity. 2010 brought a lot of friendships back together, while some friendships drifted into dissolution. The first part of 2010 was a reinvention of Pete and I's home. After long discussion, and many paint swatches later, we decided to repaint the living room and den area. We also refurnished these areas with new chocolate brown leather furniture and two beautiful area rugs.

We thought we could go crazy and start working on the dining room as well, but money and time became too much of a burden. Actually the rest of the year was marred by financial issues that really hindered our ability to enjoy the year. We didn't go to Bear Week, we didn't travel very much during the summer, and our Halloween party was scaled back to some degree. We didn't throw a Christmas open house, and we really didn't do much for each other for Christmas since we have gone hog wild crazy for the last three Christmases.

Money was a huge factor...even though I have been gainfully employed for over a year now, the damage my unemployment for five months in 2009, still has left a lasting effect on us financially in 2010.

But with 2011 come new opportunities...we plan on going on at least two possible trips this year. The first hopefully coming in April. I have been bowling in a second league since October and the prize for all of us is a 5 day, 4 night stay in Las Vegas at the Riviera. the only thing we have to purchase is air fare, and it's buy one get one free. Hopefully the second trip will be going home to Texas for Christmas! The second trip will hold major significance as it has been over eight years since I have been home for the holidays, and three years just being back home. This Christmas really hit home how much I miss my family and friends!

Last year we did get to do a few fun things that were local. We saw David Sedaris in April, I won tickets for us to see Melissa Etheridge, we got to see Adam Lambert on his Glam Nation tour, we saw a few last remaining shows on our 2009-2010 Broadway series at the Proctors theatre here in Schenectady, and we saw some of our friends in productions throughout the Capital area.

We made a bunch of sacrifices, all in hopes that 2011 will be a better year for us to be able to have more freedom in what we can do together. OH!!! No more Halloween parties for a few years, more details on what went down in later posts, but let's just say that Spooky Bear in Provincetown, MA in 2011 is our ultimate goal. We all ready have looked into a house to rent for the weekend and hoping that about five other friends will be willing to join in with us.

Well that's it for now, looking forward to getting back into a blogging mood!

Until next time...

James
