I assure you they are. All listed direct from the Periodic Table.. You might not know about them in your world.

Well... Yes and no.

It's mostly a system for cataloging the various substances that make up our world, and it's extremely useful for advanced sciences. However not knowing them isn't exactly going to kill you.

When I think of elements, I think of things like wind and water. If scientists decide to complicate things, it doesn't really matter much.
