Weekly re-cap: went out to eat about once a day (last of week of academic year madness), went to a couple of pleasantly laid-back parties (ibid), got a hot new cell phone (hiptop 'splode! [new # in members]), slept on couches more often than is optimal for geezers such as myself (and then went to work the next day). I'll roll over to the cingular ( Read more... )

It looks pretty sexy, a guy came to the film club last night sporting one and I got to play with it a bit... I'd like to play with it a bit more... :)

So far, it's great. The Razr does IM, email, and web in addition to being a well-designed phone. It's nice to not be stuck with T-Mobile's network, too.

I was walking through the mall with my car charger, etc. in a cingular bag and the guy trying to get people to get free cell phones with a service plan figures he'll try to sell to me. He asked what kind of phone I bought, and instead of my usual "not interested" without breaking stride, I stop and show him my Razr. He goes "oh..." And I took his silence as a chance to tell him that the sidekick was a really well-designed phone, but that T-Mobiles network was worthless.

What's retail on the Razr now? I've been waiting for the price to get reasonable first.

Amazon has them for $49 after rebate, but they don't sell Cingular service around here, so I can't get it from them. And I'm not keen on paying 4x that.

I got mine from a website called simply wireless; it was $175, less $100 in rebates that will trickle back to me over the next 9 months. I would have bought form Amazon myself, but as you've noted, they hate Rochestarians. If this price seems reasonable to you, let me know and I'll refer you to the website, so we can each save an extra $25 (and end up paying roughly the same for the phones as we would have if Amazon sold Cingular service to Upstate NY)

Was that a special price? It looks like it's $299 there.

If it's $100 or less after rebates, hook me up. How long do they take to deliver?

The splash page says $299, but when you follow the link (for my zip code, at least https://www.simplywireless.com/simply/execute/quick/offer?ms=1&affiliateName=hp232g&uid=&offerId=ci19&zipcode=14620), you get the price quote after rebates. I got mine after 3 business days via DHL, and in less than a week since I bought mine, they've upped the rebates and lowered the price ~ $25 after rebates. If you want the $25 back on top of that, try calling them @ 1-866-343-2728 and use the bonus code fr1046392. Beats my why they don't offer the referrer thing over the web.

Thanks.

I think by the time it's all said and done then it's free.

How could I possibly pass that up?
